Nice Writing Pen

Hello, I’m trying to find a decent pen as a gift .

Preferably a rollerball or ball point style pen, not fountain pen.

Max budget $150, but hoping to find something under $100.

Might not be what you're looking for, but I've actually given/received some half decent Parker Pens.

They're fairly hardy and have good weight to them, so they feel premium without costing much more than $75.

I find that the Parker Jotter engraved with the recipient's name a nice gift albeit cliche.

It was worth the wait for a comment like that.

I would 100% suggest a fountain pen over a rollerball, and a rollerball over a ballpoint.

Basically ignore ballpoints if you want a "decent pen". They are crap.

For rollerballs, just look at the type of refills they use. Many, many pens use standard Parker refills which are readily available. All pens using those will write the same.

I find the Lamy refills quite pleasant to write with by RB standards. Look at the Safari/Al-Star/Lx (same pen, different material), although the triangle grips aren't for everyone. Lamy have other models too - the 2000 is an iconic pen, but probably over budget).

Pilot make some good rollerballs. The Metropolitan is also good but might be ballpoint only.

I'll also mention the Fisher Space Pen which gets a lot of love from the geek crowd (pretty sure they are ballpoint only).

I personally like Lamy Pens. Write well and cover many styles/ price points/ pen types

  • I have a Waterman Expert III and it's an absolute delight to use.

    Just fits your budget, too.

    S-Pen

  • Aliexpress sells a brand called Monte mont which is a homage to Mont Blanc. Reviews are favourable, they look nice and are not expensive.
