VW (Volkswagen) Polo 2013 5dr Hatchback - Wiper Blades & Key Questions

Hello,

Need help with two things for my car please.

1 - where would be a cheap place (online or a physical retail store) to buy wiper blades for my car? Need to replace all 3 wipers (front 2 + 1 rear)? VW wants $140 for it which I'm hesitant upon paying as it's a pricey.
2 - there's a feature called 'comfort/convenience opening' where you can either open or close all windows of the car with the car key remote. Recently this has randomly stopped working so wondering if there's anyone who'd know some troubleshooting steps I can go through to make it work again.

Thanks!

  • VW wants $140

Please post as separate bargain. Seriously though, just get the measurements and buy from any number of retailers.

    • I've tried a few retailers and they only sell the front ones. They said I'll have to go through VW for the rear one.

I'm going through ebay also to see if I find anything!

    aliexpress have cheap blades.

    e.g. rear blade US$3.07 delivered
    front blades US$8.49 delivered

note - I'm not 100% sure these are exactly what you require but same model number appears in the description. you may be able to find cheaper by scrolling down the individual product page and seeing what "Other Sellers" offer. If there are cheaper identical products then they will be listed under "Other Sellers".

    • Awesome, thanks altomic. Will have a look

      • as to the to the 'comfort/convenience opening'

you can easily enable/disable the auto-up/down (convenience opening). To toggle the setting on/off, it's as simple as following the below:
        (1)Close window
(2)When the window is fully closed, HOLD the button in the 'up/close' position for another second or two, until you hear another quiet yet distinct "click" from within whichever side door you're dealing with
(3)You have now toggled this bloody stupid feature on/off

        • No luck, just tried this :(

        • @PLA74: sorry :(

        • @altomic: No worries, will take it into the dealership and see if they can tell me trick with getting it to work again!

Your local Supacheap Auto would be a good place to start.

Why would you ever want to open or close all windows of the car with a remote? In my lifetime, I've never felt the urge to want to do this.

On a hot day opening the windows whilst waking towards your car might cool it down a bit. Would only save you having to get in and do it manually.

      • Never thought of that actually, but not a bad idea.

        • I often get to a hot car and reach in and hold all four window buttons down before getting in, seems to take some heat out of the car. Once in, the AC is on and the car is moving I'll put all the windows back up again.

Having the option to put the windows down remotely before getting into the car would be a good thing.

I've been buying wiper blades from these guys for years. Excellent product and service!

  • If you have a membership with Costco, they have Michelin HydroEdge blades for $12/ea (not sure if all stores stock them though). Have had them on my car for the past few months, work great.

  • You may get a rude surprise when you find out you maybe ordering by the incorrect name. Which actual part are you after? Use photos to be sure.

The rubber/silicone part that sweeps the water away is the wiper 'insert' if described correctly.
The wiper 'blade' is the spring loaded multi segment curved component that holds the insert and contorts the curved shape of the swept glass.
This blade then connects to the 'arm', which connects to the body and drive actuators.

Just to reduce any confusion as recently there was a 'wing' mirror mentioned as well, which is an English term for the front guard mirror, even though the chap meant door mirror. It may make a difference if ordering from overseas.

As for bargain 'cheap' priced replacement items, you get what you pay for. Google shop around like any other item, and do you sums.
