I Would Like to Start Accepting Bitcoin Payment. Little Help?

My little bistro has been open just over a month now, and I am looking for ways to attract new customers. I would like to be one of the few brick and motar venues in Sydney where people can spend their bitcoin, but I have no idea where to start. Anybody here already accepting bitcoin or know someone who is? I would like the option to turn it straight into fiat or keep it as bitcoin. I do not want another stinking remote eftpos terminal, I would like to use QR codes. I am not looking for Googled info, I would like some been there, done that and bought the t-shirt style advice. Thanks in advance.

You’re not worried about how volatile the exchange rate may be and that the beer you just sold for AUD$6 has now only got you AUD$5?

    • A little, but at this stage, I am just looking for new faces and bums in seats.

Fair enough. I guess it’s a new way of factoring in advertising.

Anyway, whatever works, hope you do well.

Just advertise the fact that you accept bitcoin purely as a marketing technique.

When that one person in 2019 actually genuinely offers to purchase a coffee with bitcoin just advise them that your terminal is not working today or the QR code is dodgy.

    • I do actually want the bitcoin too. I believe it has stabilized now, and millennials are actively trying to spend it. I want to help them :D

I believe it has stabilized now

        lol

      • millennials are actively trying to spend it

No, they're not. No one spends a deflationary asset, HODL!!!

How long will it take to get your funds when someone pays by bitcoin?

I don't know if millennials are interested in bitcoin. I suspect they are more into other cryptocurrencies rather than bitcoin.

What fees do you pay and are you passing these on as you will need to let customers know of any surcharges

    • All good questions I should be asking of a service. Multi-currency payment would be awesome!

If you're planning to use it as a marketing tool, you should also be prepared for it to repel some potential customers.

You're associating with an activity that consumes more electricity than Singapore (and the concomitant carbon emissions) and contributes nothing valuable to society. Indeed it's a net negative by facilitating drug trafficking, arms dealers and other nefarious activities. And it's ensnared a lot of people along the way just like gambling or Ponzi schemes.

Like Wall Street? I can assure you it will not repel any of my current customers, but it may attract new ones.

CFD's don't contribute to society. In fact you could make a valud claim they hurt society, yet they are widely used within society without any stigma

  • Here's an article you might find interesting about a crypto initiative happening in Brisbane, you might be able to join the dots from there and find a solution for yourself.

I don't ask anything on FB. I find it a useless echobox where every opinion is an advertisement.

      • What a ridiculous answer. Maybe you should try advertising your business on FB instead. As someone who is heavily involved in crypto currencies I would not be swayed to eat somewhere by them offering the option to pay in bitcoin. I go places for good food and good service. Get the basics right.

I used BitPay a few years ago and their service was exceptional. I cannot comment on recent times but definitely worth investigating.

  • This might be a solution: https://commerce.coinbase.com/

Globee will accept Bitcoin and many other alts and they can service Australian retail B&M.

You can also choose how much of the transaction you wish to keep in BTC, and a % that you choose will be sold into fiat automatically.
