    $949 (RRP $1,999)

How much do you normally sell it for?

    • +33

      Oh, found it…

      It is normally $995

      https://web.archive.org/web/20180325123930/https://www.rio.c…

You should probably mention the $46 saving in the title so people don't mistakenly think they are saving $1050…
I'm sure you wouldn't deliberately want to post a misleading title FunkyDan ??? That wouldn't by Funky…..

        • +23

The RRP is the recommended retail price given by the manufacturer

Under the ACCC laws, you are not allowed to advertise a price comparison to the RRP, when you DO NOT normally sell at the RRP.

Look up Deceptive and Misleading advertising on their website.

          By stating

          "$949 (RRP $1,999)"

You are making a misleading price comparison…

This is almost identical to the example on their website of what businesses are not allowed to do…

        • +16

we have sold this unit at $1999 in the past (if you scroll through the capture dates on that link you've posted you'll see exactly this)

          That was two years ago…

If you read what the ACCC states, the price comparison must be based on your recent normal selling price, not a price from 2 years ago…

          Not funky

        • +1

@FunkyDan: so you think it's a bargain because you were able to rip customers off in the past?

        • -2

          @asa79:
Absolutely not about ripping customers off. I made them aware of other models (it was not long after the rz720 was released) and they were not fussed about the price it was at in the slightest. They were just desperate for a new AVR and were willing to pay the price even though I told them about an upcoming sale we were commencing soon.
We do not rip customers off and you'll see that in our pricing across our whole website.

        • @FunkyDan:

          Not the best attitude mate.
As you can see you don’t have much love on this post

@FunkyDan: my negs agave run out at the moment so here is a personal one 👎.

  • +2

seems like its the same as in US so Amazon US is around $100 cheaper delivered.

    • +2

be careful with the different voltage… US using 110-120v where AUS using 220-240V

      • VI=P

so twice the voltage equals twice the power, right ???

        • +1

just turn the amp up to 20 .. she'll be right mate :P

        • +2

@Matt2018: mine only goes up to eleven.

    • +1

You'll want to be careful with buying gear overseas though. I had a customer who spoke to a number of repairers and was unable to get his Onkyo unit repaired because it was bought from Germany.
When buying in Australia from an authorised dealer you are getting a 3 year Australian warranty and, in the event that anything goes wrong outside of this warranty period, you are still able to get your unit repaired here in Aus if need be :)

      • +1

I had no issues sending back the Marantz that I bought from Amazon.de for rapier, got it back in 2 weeks ..

        • I guess it would depend on the unit. He said it had a few years on it but the reason they gave him was that it was an overseas model and for that they wouldn't touch it. That's what I was told by the customer..

  • You can’t just walk in here and fool us funky dan. This rrp bollox should be outlawed. Don’t you know who you’re dealing with when you step into the OZB domain. This is our world and we know what a bargain looks like with all its relative reference points. Learn from this experience and avoid future humiliation.

    • My intent was not to fool anyone. I have only stated facts the comments I have made.

From my point of view I see this as a great deal because as far as I have seen it's the cheapest in Australia :)

    • +11

Bit strong don't you think? Yes our domain is finding and sharing bargains… But we need vendors to want to engage with us too, or else we'll just end up sharing gadget deals from gearbest etc…

So far as I can see the mistake the OP made was listing RRP in their title. Doesn't mean we didn't want them coming here to post their deal.

I've had a search and this is the cheapest i can find for Australian stock. If they'd just posted it here as '$949 (was $999)' then it would still objectively be a bargain as it's the best price around.

      • Thank you for your comment :)

We do love giving great deals on products we love to sell, especially when its brand new stock with Australian warranty, and to share a great deal on here for everyone to see is the purpose of my post.

Regardless of the saving offered here. I have dealt with Rio Sound & Vision before. (Item advertised on OzB too)

Top notch support, great business to deal with. Had a problem with the item. They no longer had stock (or the supplier). Got me an upgraded unit as a replacement from supplier. Couldn't be happier.

    • +1

      Thats awesome to hear..

We're all about making sure our customers are happy so thanks for the support :)

  • +7

Please also be aware the model on offer has been replaced by ONKYO TX-RZ720. Please refer to the following comparison blog to know what you are buying or missing out on.

Some seriously harsh comments here. Anyone spending $1000 on a receiver isn't exactly going to be fooled by an rrp anyway. And if that was originally the rrp then it doesn't matter whether it was two years ago or 25 years ago.

    • +3

then it doesn't matter whether it was two years ago or 25 years ago.

Incorrect. Read the ACCC site about deceptive and misleading advertising.

    • Thank you :)

  • +2

Take note Onkyo available reciever spec are 1 channel driven ,so unless you like to listen thru one speaker ,seriously look for 2 channels driven for proper specs which will probably be around 100 watts RMS and even less if your driving 7.2

  • Do these suffer from the same HDMI-audio-randomly-stops-working bug of the previous receivers? Doesn't seem to be any fix available locally for those, and makes me very wary of Onkyo.
My TX-NR414 is a quite expensive paperweight.

    • Onkyo have fixed the HDMI issues they were having with their previous AVRs.
I haven't had anyone bring their TX-RZ710 back with issues :)

      • Good to hear.
Any way for me to fix my 414?
Can I get the part sent and do it myself?

  • +1

Not specifically aimed at this product or this seller…

Being an "audiophile" should classify as a mental illness.

Take a look at this video.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-dOSD1KoNU&lc=z234jp1ilkjtz…

Starts off perfectly reasonable. Put speakers equidistant from the walls, divide the room into 3, put the speakers on one imaginary divider and sit somewhere near the other. Quickly devolves from there into never listening in a room with glass or an alcove and requiring perfect geometry. Curtains for the glass are unpredictable according to the "discussion" I had on this page. I pointed out family, friends and furniture aren't predictable either. Not to mention going to a LOT of trouble to determine whether to position yourself 15cm forward or rearward (with no attention paid to the actual dimensions of the room).

Apparently people go to even larger extremes than building custom rooms like custom power circuits just for their stereo because the electricity isn't pure enough coming out of their main circuit and they can hear it and it makes some huge difference.

Of course I was told I'm "not at that level". Heaven help me if I ever am. Magical thinking combined with gullibility and narcissism.

By all means get a nice piece of gear that plays your music and movies well but beyond a certain price point, there's diminishing returns and as you get older (beyond about 25) your hearing declines anyway. Alienating family and friends, and spending your life savings, hiding the cost of equipment from your spouse, to convince yourself you slightly better sound is a world apart from what you could have gotten for well under $2k is absurd.

  • A lot of negative comments here, I have dealt with RIO before and they are amazing, great customer support and if your buying a few things they will but together a bargain for you.

That being said I can see how the RRP post is misleading, in future I would advise the rep to advertise the price of the item as reduced from the price it was last sold at and then state the current RRP in the description. Doing otherwise is a disservice because a lot of people in this thread now have a negative perception of RIO and it couldn't be further from the truth!

If your serious about sound they will speak to you about your needs, give you a realistic price on what you want to achieve and advise you on components to the system you can skim on to lower the overall price and still achieve a good outcome, after sales support is amazing and they are completely transparent about new models and why they are worth purchasing, or why buying the old model at a clearance price is a bargain and to go for it (very few differences between the models etc).

With myself for example I was looking at a projector from Sony, they advised the just released Model that was about $800 more was no longer manufactured in Japan and had almost no difference to the previous model, components fromJapan are more reliable and proven and therefore I got a projector that hasn't missed a beat for $800 less than the newer model :)

    • +4

Thank you for the support :)

I have amended the title of the post to avoid any more negativity.

At the end of the day we just want to make people aware of what products they are buying and what will best suit their needs, without having to pay extra for no reason. We love to make our customers happy :)

    • If they are so awesome then why are they trying to deceive.

This should be advertised as a saving of $46.

Not some inflated rip off RRP.

P.S Highly recommend getting your Onkyo from Amazon Germany, I did have a fault within 3 years and Amazon reimbursed my return shipping cost to send it back and offered a cash refund or a credit.

I took the cash and bought the lastest Onkyo at the time.

      • As I have stated, I was not trying to deceive and I have amended the title because this was not the intention of this post. Just wanted to post a great bargain on here for people to see :)

      • +2

I gave constructive feedback as oppose to attacking a Business I presume you have never personally dealt with, where I addressed the above issue you are so quick to dismiss an entire organization over. The rep rectified the issue, I am unsure on why you are so quick to attack this Business, plenty of companies do this, it is not good practice but it also does not mean they are not offering a good price or providing a good service any consumer should do some diligence before making a purchase and not solely base the purchase on it having the biggest saving from RRP.

As I said if you go to a store or contact them and are after an entire home theatre system or components to expand or fit into your existing system they are specialists which will help and look after you to get the best result for your budget.

You have to compare what you are getting here, walk into any JB, Good Guys or HN and 9/10 times you will watch the salesman read off the sticker when you ask them a question about the features of the TV, Amp, speaker system, STB etc because they don't have a clue and are only interested in selling high ticket items to get their sales target margins and commission bonuses. These guys give you knowledge and aren't just going to try flog you anything by telling you anything you want to hear to get a sale across the line with after solid sales support if required.

Now can we comment on the quality of the product and stutible speaker combinations etc. To actually assist people in making a decision if they are interested in the product, as oppose to referring them to Amazon?

        • Purchased a Pioneer AVR from Rio a few years ago.
          Excellent service.
One thing stopping me from doing that again is the unrelenting SPAM.
Rio did not cancel the emails after several requests.
Now have a new email :)
          Incidentally,the TX-NR555 is a reasonable buy @ $599.

        • @Dave Id:
Thanks for the feedback, and apologies for the spam.. we now have a new website which allows you to purchase products without creating an account with RIO if you don't wish to receive our emails :)

        • @FunkyDan:

Never asked for an account IIRC.
Paid by PayPal or bank transfer.

Just would not cancel the SPAM that I never signed up for.
Permanently lost me as a customer.

Often recommended RIO on Whirlpool. AVR prices often very competitive. Excellent service.

          Best of luck!

PS. The pop ups on your website are annoying and distracting.

        • @Dave Id:

Apologies once again. The website has been changed now if you ever wish to change your mind. If you are able to come into store I can guarantee you there wont be any emails sent to you as we do not require them for shipping, and you can experience more of our excellent service for yourself

Thank you for the recommendations though! :)

  • Why do you only stock onkyo?

    • We have stocked other AVR brands in the past but have found that in recent times Onkyo have been a great product. They have all the features on board that most people are looking for, the reliability of the product has improved dramatically, and they're priced reasonably well for a lot of people looking for bang for buck, considering the great amount of features available on these AVRs.
To top it off they also come with a 3 year Australian warranty :)

      • Fair enough. I'm just a bit disappointed personally. Would be great to find a well priced AU retailer offering yamaha, marantz, denon.

    • It's probably a combination of incentives/pressure from Onkyo to only stock their products. Happens a LOT in the cycling industry and is why you see bike shops only have 1 or 2 brands in their store instead of stocking every single brand. The reps response isn't entirely truthful as it literally makes no sense for them not to stock other quality brands (e.g. yamaha).
