Measure 220MW of resistance? Many wow!

    • Copied it off the website. Didn't realise!

      • This should help. Copy and paste: Ω

I believe this is considered a pretty nice hobby grade (i.e. not electrician/pro) multimeter. Not sure how good the leads are, might be any idea to get some nice fine ones at the same time.

    • Not wrong, I was after one for some time for my drone, should do the job nicely, along with some basic home use. The leads are actually pretty good too.

Different brand, same functionality much cheaper on Aliexpress

    • +4

      Surely that doesn't warrant a downvote…

    • It's a different brand, therefore not the same item.

      • -1

Great, then you go and buy the more expensive non-branded one for a 50% markup.
EDIT: neither of them are "brands", simple low end DIY devices providing the exact same functionality. Don't confuse the question of "Is this the cheapest on the market?" with the question "Is she/he a nice guy and tried to post a deal?". They are unrelated. And this is a bargain site.

Uni-T are an actual manufacturer and have been around for a while. They don't have the greatest reputation, but still make okay equipment.

I think you are fine in proposing an alternative. I don't agree with negging the OP because you are not talking about the same product.

If someone puts a post for a discounted Fluke DMM, and its cheaper than anywhere else, then its a bargain for anyone who wants a Fluke DMM. There would be zero point in negging it because it would be more expensive than Uni-T or some other cheaper brand. Something can be a bargain for a specific make and model, etc because it is a bargain for that particular make and model.

Another example; If a particular Sony Tv was on a bargain sale but there was an inferior model of LG for $1 cheaper, it would still make the Sony a bargain for what it is. I think it would be fine to bring up the LG as being cheaper but why neg the Sony post when it would be a bargain for that particular Sony?

        • alternative / substitute

the results from multimeters are bit more generic than headphones which sound different, or phones that have extra software features , or food items that can taste different.

i have a few multimeters and big differences only seem to be in number of digits in display, what they can measure eg capacitance and ranges etc.

        • @garage sale:
Not really… Multimeters have many functions and ratings, cheap leads can have poor continuity.

This is the equivalent of comparing a Great Wall car to a Holden… both do similar jobs, but one is more likely to last and do the job in a bit more comfort.

      • Not only different brand, totally different model.

    • That one is missing serial output?

      • -2

That's a fair point; looks like if you need the RS232 output (…?) then you would need to buy the more expensive device.

        • Can you remove your neg then?

    • I'm actually in the market for a cheap one and this looks like it will do.
      Thanks

    Regarding ocoolio
Disgusting use of downvotes when all (s)he did was offer an similar alternative much cheaper.
It may not be 100% identical but it's a worthy inclusion in the discussion of this product.
This is why i and likely many others are reluctant to post here.
You clowns with a heavy hand for the neg button are a disgusting example, and you're missing out on people contributing meaningfully to OZB because of your antics.

Also Uni-T's implementation of serial is poor at best.

You clowns with a heavy hand for the neg button are a disgusting example,

This is a little ironic as I'm sure most the downvotes were because ocoolio downvoted the post because they found a different brand of multimeter with different features for a lower price.

Without that downvote I doubt anyone would have minded.

      • OK, that's a fair comment, i'll agree with you on that.
I was unaware there was a downvote, as from where i'm sitting i'm seeing 7 positive and 0 negative.
My comments were based on this information.
That said the crowd here love their pitchforks and torches a little too much.

          Pro tip, cheers.

So 8 upvotes, it sounds like a really f*ing good deal. Did you buy one?
        Did anyone buy one…?
We can get to the point when someone says "You know what, it's actually not the best deal, here is a much better deal on the market" we can neg that because poor OP was trying so hard to post something.
But if the deal that was posted attracted almost no clicks and no actual buys, was it really a good deal in the first place?

I still hold what I said: there are (almost) identical multimeters for 50% less. This isn't a good deal at all.

    • i had a look at the ali option and if it has the features you want then great …. with multimeters if it’s not a fluke, then i’m open to alternatives as there isn’t much in these things from one brand to another.
and unless it’s based on a tear down to show differences eg track width on switch one brand is the same as another for me.

  • I have one of these and the only complaint I have is no backlight. I am just a hobbyist so this may not suit someone wanting the accuracy of a Fluke or similar.

    • +1

not even sure it’s the accuracy of a fluke that is their selling point, it’s sales support and warranty if you have an issue, quality of leads, etc.

fluke now make 2 versions of a many of their meters one for the china market at a cheaper price, and the other for the rest of the world …. different model model numbers sets them apart not features or accuracy.
