These are not as good due to the lack of ssd and being emmc storage

    • +1

Yes avoid these really slow storage

      • How much slower than SSD, roughly?

Google just says it's slower than SSD but still much faster than HDD. Is that not right?

        • +1

You can get different HDD speeds.
Emmc is equivalent to sticking a memory card in there for storage in my opinion.
          SSD there's different speeds also.

Maybe the slowest (or one of the) HDD can compare to an emmc?
          HDD's in general are faster.

        • @pennypincher98:

Well obviously the speed varies slightly. But no, eMMC is not slower than HDDs, generally, just SSDs:

Yes, for bursts eMMC is faster howver with Windows even with 4GB Windows pages and requires sustained write performance. eMMC’s are not up to the task compared to a typical SSD.

If your an expert you can optimise your setup so it’s not an issue. But no expert would take technical advice from a forum.

Sure there are some slow SSD’s but specifically I am comparing the performance of this model against the earlier DELL model with the SSD.
          Light years of performance difference.

          @SmithInOz:
Also the ssd model can upgrade the ram and ssd this model you can't modify anything internally

      • In this model, comparable to a memory card or USB stick.

Avoid at all cost. I have the Intel one, it was as slow as a snail. It can't even handle multiple browser tabs. Useless machine.

      • Which Intel one? The dual-core with eMMC, or the quad-core N3710 with the 128Gb SSD? I have the N3710 model and it's fine for web browsing (even with multiple tabs). Mind you I did a clean install of Windows 10 to get rid of any crap in the background.

32Gb emmc was dumb 2yrs ago

768p lcd was dumb 2yrs ago

For 11" i find HD res to be…adequate, especially for a cheap price and a low powered chip.

Emmc is not the greatest, borderline, but not really good. 32gb however is VERY inadequate. Couldn't recommend that to anyone, even people willing to mess about with an sd card.

    • AMD was dumb two years ago until Spectre?

Lol while I agree that they aren't optimal specs, the prices are there.
32GB emmc is a no go but I made do with a external drive until I upgraded.

  • Great post, some information I found from Google.

    AMD A6-9220e is 1.6Ghz / 2.5Ghz (Base / Turbo)

    AMD A9-9420e is 2.3Ghz / 2.7Ghz (Base / Turbo)

    Both are Dual Core CPUs.

    • Yeah the Intel version was better being quad and with ssd

      • i assume the graphics in this apu are crap as well compares to intel atom?

    • wow… that 'e' capped it by 1ghz down ?

9420 vanilla clocked at 3.7ghz from notebookcheck

Seems like an alright deal!! Especially if you can get a further discount through gift cards ;)
Just a shame about that 1366x768 - it's okay but certainly not awesome.

Note the previous version of Windows lost support yesterday on April 10, leaving you potentially unprotected. While you can upgrade with a 32gb emmc through external drives it's a lot of stuffing around.

    • 1366x768

I really don't see much need for more than that on 11 inch laptops. It'd be hard to tell the difference at that size. Especially since there's probably a trade-off in battery life for the higher res.

      • It's alright and certainly acceptable at the price but there is a noticeable difference.

I still haven't seen a review on this new model. I haven't really found much about the "e" version of this AMD processor, but I'm assuming it's on-par to the Intel CPU, and maybe has a better GPU.

However, I'm guessing that 128Gb eMMC is soldered on and not upgradable, and is way slower than the older 128Gb SSD…. at least the older Intel Inspiron 11 3000 was easily upgradable.

  • Anyone know if these cheap laptops can run fortnite?
Want to try the game but my old laptop is lagging so bad….

    • Will it run? Yes.

      Playable? Nope.

    • Okay, at 720p or so on low/medium quality…. on a 7200u i5 with a Radeon 530, no problems at all for casual Fortnite.

      Just my personal experience.

    Public Service Announcement.

My one just arrived. I bought the top of line model for $399.20.

It is soo slow. Painfully slow. Do not buy. Returning it as I write this.
