Pffft, I have one and no issue whatsoever. It's not kept in sunlight or next to toaster or something else heat producing. Here's a review exerpt:

      Not fine enough
      2 out of 5, reviewed on Jan 17, 2018
Probably okay for percolator grinds, but when it comes to french press the finest setting simply isn't fine enough.

If you can't see whats wrong with that sentence, don't bother.

As for reviews on grinds going everywhere, show me a budget burr grinder where grinds don't end up creating a bit off mess on or around the grinder. Reviews are by people who want $300+ quality grinder, for $100.

        • FWIW if done 'properly' frenchpress/plunger is technique actually very similar to that utilised for an Aeropress 2-3min brew (I have and use both devices) - therefore I would urge folks to use the same medium-med/fine grind for best results.

Using 'coarse' grind for plunger is really not good for results and harkens back to the bad old days when boiling water was used and the coffee left to steep for 10mins or so. Use the humble plunger with an aeropress type technique and you can get very good results.

      • Isn't French press coarse? Lol

        • Yep. Turkish would be the most challenging as its very fine grind, hence not suitable.

  • Had one of this. After a year or so, the rubbery materiel on the machine body becomes sticky. Sort of like melted rubber. Quite disappointed with the build quality (material).

    • +1

Was it placed in sunlight? That rubber stuff never lasts under direct uv.

    • It appears to come with a 2 year warranty, you should see if you can get it replaced if it is becoming a problem.

      • I have upgraded my grinder to Breville Smart Grinder Pro, which I got during MYER sales. :)

  • +1

I would spend a bit more and look for a Sunbeam EM0480 or the Breville Smart Grinder Pro - both good reliable entry level burr grinders :)

    • The Smartgrinder (entry level for enthusiasts maybe) is far better than that Sunbeam (real entry level) ( I've had both). Well worth grabbing the Smartgrinder when it goes for less than $200 (quite a regular occurrence). and yes, it really does make a difference over something like this Bodum or the Sunbeam.

      • This guy grinds.

      • I’m hanging out for the Breville Smart Grinder to be sub $200 again. Wishing I bought it during the Myer 20% off anniversary sale.

  • Nothing beats a hand burr grinder anyway.
    Forearm workout

    • +4

I am sure there are other forearm exercise more pleasurable than grinding coffee.

  • An alright product, if you're looking for something to do an espresso grind I'd look elsewhere though.
Did a modification on a secondhand bodum to get it to grind espresso, but definitely not worth it with a new machine.

    I have one of these.
And got it for cheaper - if i recall $65.
It has been good and I have had no problems with it for the 1+ years I have owned it.

The plastic on mine is fine and isn't sticky. It also lives on the top of the microwave.
The grinds don't go every where - mind you i grind into the glass provided and not directly into the group head (that was messy).

At this price it might be a goer but really depends on how much you spent on your machine / method of brew you are planning to use.
I have used it for percolator, french press, espresso and aeropress and no real problems.

If you can pick up a EM0480 or a Smart Grinder Pro for a little bit more go for it, but this does the job and is probably the best grinder sub $100.

  • Mine arrived today, will report back once I give it a shot! (pun intended)

    • Used it everyday for the last 14 days and it works beautifully! Very happy with the result, both coarse and fine grinds.
