Pixel 2 XL Headphone Solutions/Options

So got the Pixel 2 XL on the $59pm plan from here on OzB but am wondering what other people are using for headphones.

I have a couple of pairs of Xiaomi in ears that I am pretty happy with but by the time you add the adapter, the phone is too long to comfortably fit in my pocket.

From what I have read with actual Bluetooth in-ears you need to be prepared to pay a lot more to receive lesser sound quality, and I'd probably always forget to recharge them.

A nice slim 90-degree USB C to 3.5mm would likely be a good solution but can't find any. I can find 90-degree adapters, but 90-degree adapter into a USB C to 3.5mm adapter into the headphones isn't really a neat solution.

Does anyone have any good solutions?

I am unaware of any 90-degree adapter just this one or you could try an pair of earphones that directly have a USB-C input.

For wireless, apparently, the Apple AirPods are the most intuitive, followed by the JayBird series and lastly the Google Pixel Buds. Source.

Yeah, that's the one that came with the phone, makes the phone plus adapter about 20cm long which I find impracticable for putting in most pockets.

Yeah, probably the best option for what is available ATM.

Im using the Xiaomi noise cancellation headphones, pretty good value for $50 + points from Gearbest (it goes on sale quite frequently)

yeah, I use it daily for the last few months and the noise cancellation works pretty well on the bus, train… it doesnt work that great when I'm walking outside with strong winds like my Bose QC35.
If you're just an average user like me then I'd say it exceed the expectation 90% of the times and you'd be hard pressed to find a decent noise cancellation headphones with this pricetag :)

edit: I'm using a Mi 6 which doesnt have a 3.5mm jack though

    • Which ones do you use more?

the xiaomi one :) less bulky and convenient to carry around

Just know that whatever USB C to 3.5mm adapter you use must have the DAC built in or it won't work with the pixel. I'd say about 90 percent of the cheap adapter on eBay / Aliexpress etc won't work with the Pixel.

  • Do you regret getting the Pixel? Samsung the only flagship left with headphone jack?

Not at all, especially for the price that it has worked out to be which is $49/m for 20gb on Telstra with the phone included. The Headphone jack has been the only drawback so far and that isn't insurmountable.

  • I have the Beats X bluetooth earphones. Sound great, small earbuds, 5 minute quick charge gets you 2 hours of playback (8 hours at full charge).

    • I'm pretty happy with mine too. I wouldn't say they sound great but they feel pretty good and the rapid charge is incredible.
