Help Me Choose a Gaming Laptop

Hi OzBargainers..

I think the current price of the latest laptop nowdays is getting higher each year. It's definitely harder to make a decision now.

I think that i really need a laptop now. I do not have any laptop right now because i was usually prefer a desktop computer over laptop. But since i will travel a lot in the future then i really need one.

I am a gamer that mainly use a laptop for entertainment (watching movies etc) and a stock trading.

I do not need to max all the settings for the game's graphic. But i do hope i can play all the games available even at low-medium settings smoothly.

What are important for me are how easy or light to bring the laptop from one place to another. Also battery and the life span of the product.

I'm thinking about dell xps 15 9570 4k or gigabyte aero 15x 144hz for the slim bezel. Good for watching movies too..

I'm also have surface book 2 on mind.

As you guys know it's all expensive lol. Being investor myself making me have hard time to spend that kind of money easily for something depreciate.. I already think many times.. It's hard life for bargainers :p

So you can say i'm looking for approval, opinion, or reason to make make decision solid.

Thanks

    no budget ?

    • Dell xps 15 / sb2 / gigabyte aero 15x / dell xps 15 2 in 1? Best value.. It's not actually a budget issue.. It's the matter of the best bang for my bucks.. I'm thinking if it's worth it to spend such big money or not.. I need to be sure so i'm looking for opinion.. But i'll prefer to spend only around 2000 aud.. What i want though are around 3000 aud lol

  • I'll just jump in on this thread, also looking for a laptop that will be able to handle autocad 3D rendering. 15.4" screen. Budget under $1000. Cheers

      dell 15 7000 w/ 1050Ti @ $1060 on next ebay 20%

      • I'll jump in and say that I can confirm the dell 15 7000 is a good buy, I do wish I went with the i7 version instead of the i5, but the price for performance can't be beaten, there are some close contenders but by itself it's great. I hope you like red LEDs though HA.

    • What render engine are you using? Default or external

      • Sorry it's for a friend. Default I believe.

I would reconsider how badly you need to be able to play games on it. You're looking at spending ~2-3k on a performance laptop to play a few games on it when a $600 laptop will play movies and browse the web just fine. Save yourself a thousand dollars and go buy a Nintendo Switch to take travelling instead.

    • I have switch already..

As a bargainer we are.. I only play the switch for the exclusive games / rpg..
Because if you notice the games all are more expensive.. I prefer to buy and play it on steam PC or ios Ipad.

  • Look into the metabox range. I just bought one for a friend and I was surprised at how cheap it was. You can set them up with desktop CPU and GPU too, not just the underpowered mobile versions

    • Depending on some ranges they are, heavily underclocked to meet temperature standards.

      • Do you mind expanding more on that? About to buy a gaming laptop and would be interested to know if Metabox actually underclocks everything. Do you just mean the Nvidia MaxQ tech?

        • Not Max Q. It depends on the model range. The reason they underclock is to maintain a stable temp so that it won't thermal throttle. Since most of their product line is thin.

  • I currently have a alienare 15r3 (1070)… love the look of the aero 15x; if I had the choice id go for that 100%

  • Go to gumtree type in "GTX 1060 laptop" offer everybody your price range… Wait.. profit.

You should be able to get best deal there otherwise if you can wait Amazon US is good for a Acer Predator Helios 300 roughly $1600-1700 AUD delivered (may just need an adapter or sell the power pack for an Australian equivalent one)
