Advice on Finding a One-off Cleaner - Airtasker?

We have just signed the lease on a rental property and I have just started going through the house with the condition report. On inspection of the bathroom and kitchen I am less than impressed with what the agent has considered to be clean.

I'm thinking of getting someone in just to clean those 2 rooms. Have googled cleaners but it seems like there are a lot that charge either too much or they have a minimum of 3 hours (which would make it too expensive) or they don't do very small one-off jobs.

I remembered Airtasker today and had a quick look there just now but I'm not sure how much I should be offering. I also don't know anyone who has ever used Airtasker so would like to hear from anyone who has some experience with it.

This is what I need doing:
I need someone to thoroughly clean a small bathroom - includes in and around toilet, vanity cupboard and drawers inside and out, floor and shower.
Also kitchen - inside oven (oven is relatively clean already so not a huge job), stovetop, rangehood, cupboards and drawers inside and out.

Cheers

On Airtasker you can set your budget at what ever you like and people will bid for the work. If your budget price is too low, people will be offering you bids which are hgiher than your budget price. You have no obligation to accept any of the bids. If you work out your budget price is too low and isn't attracting many bids, you can raise it.

    • Thanks. I think part of my problem is that I have no idea what people would usually pay for this kind of thing. I've never actually had someone come in and clean anything for me before.
Going by my description of what needs doing do you have a suggestion on what price I should maybe offer? I'm currently looking at peoples ads and so far they are ranging from $50 for a 4 B/R 2 Bathroom house to $100 for a 4 B/R house.

      • Just offer $50 or something. I'm sure you'll get heaps of offers. Also note that just because other people advertise a certain budget doesn't mean they end up paying that amount. There is no way to find out what the final price is. Airtasker does not display that information.

        • OK thanks. You also answered a question I had about final prices. Cheers

        • Probably not far off. I've seen a few local that charge $30/hour.

Just save it up and combine with the end of lease clean. Get everything done at once.

  • "Absolute Domestics" will charge around $145 for 3 hours minimum, with $40 of that goes back to AD as a fee so the cleaners are only getting $105. If your not capable or willing to do it yourself, then you will need to pay the going rate. Have you tried Oneflare?

These guys are recommended by the Direct Connect people when signing new lease. Complete clean for 1-bed apartment in Sydney was quoted at $85 which seemed reasonable. I have NOT used them yet and cannot vouch for them either way, just making you aware of another potential choice.

    • Thanks for the reply. I just had a look but it says they are not available in my area. Maybe Sydney only?

  • Supply the cleaning products and $25-$30 an hour is the going rate. You will find someone who is more than happy to do it, uni student, in between jobs etc. Look for the reviews and go from there. Use this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363369

    • Thanks for the reply and link.

  • Oh my goodness, you are just about to be shafted.
The agent and the condition report says the property is "clean", but it's clear to you that it's not.
At end of lease, the agent will expect it to be "clean" - that's what the condition report says. Every defect/flaw/item of dirt will be to your account. Say goodbye to your bond.
Before you engage cleaners, photograph or video the property, and mark up the condition report with everything, I mean EVERYTHING, date and sign it, and send a copy back to the agent.
You absolutely need to do this, some agents are notorious, you may get a different agent with a different standard of cleanliness at the end of lease, some marks may not clean off and you may get a bill for replacement of vanity tops or retiling.

    • Thanks for your reply. I usually note absolutely everything and take plenty of photos. I actually spoke to the agent this morning about a few other issues and mentioned I have added quite a few pages of comments and photographs - he was very surprised as in his opinion the owners were "very fussy about cleanliness". When I mentioned the state of the bathroom and kitchen he couldn't believe he had missed anything.

He also told me a huge rusty hole in the garage wall was something I would have to live with as it isn't the landlords responsibility. When I told him most of the window locks don't work he told me it wasn't his job to check every lock in the house (though in the condition report he has noted that all are working).

He's going to get a big shock when I hand him the condition report back.

  • I would strongly recommend against airtasker - you'll find most 'cleaners' on there are just doing it on the side and have a very different definition of 'clean'.
I've used it 3 times for cleaners and each time had to ask them to come back and do the job again.

I now use serviceseeking.com.au which is similar but cleaners tend to do it full time and know what they're doing. You post a job and wait for quotes

    • Disagree - found my cleaner on airtasker. Better than a "listed" cleaner I was using for over 3 years. Best to check the reviews to get an idea what to expect

    • Thanks I'll check them out.

Consider gumtree also for small stuff like this. Found an awesome plumber this way and had 3 of my bidets installed for around $110 plus tip. Also made a cool new friend.. sometimes it's the little things.
