  • Has anyone tried this unit? I've always loved the idea of an Ultrabook that you dock at home for sweet, sweet frames.

Purchased the Omen Accelerator box a few weeks ago and the system has been running flawlessly with my Dell and HP laptops.

The unit large which takes up a lot of desk space. The power supply has a 8-pin and 6-pin cable but it doesn’t have a fan. The graphics card is enough for 1080p gameplay.

For the price I recommend you get it.

      • What's the 1060 look like? Can you post up some internal pics. Cheers.

      • Thanks for sharing your feedback and personal recommendation @tris - glad you're enjoying it overall!

      • Are you sure the power supply doesn't have a fan, mine blows air outwards?

    • I don't think it works as a dock.
It only has video output, and sometimes a charger. They don't have Ethernet port, or USB-A ports.

      • It makes for an excellent dock, aside from the ouputs on the GTX 1060 itself (HDMI, DVI-D, DisplayPort), it has 4 USB-A ports, a LAN port, a USB-C PD, another USB-C and I'm pretty sure I left some out.

  • Good SSD price …

    • Cheers Diji1 !

    • FYI umart has the same drive for $99 at the moment

      • Hey @DrDuck - Thank you for the info; however their price doesn't include delivery, which is $20 I believe. The 20% code can't be applied to their order also.

        • Just pointing the umart price out to people who have one nearby and would rather buy from a brick and mortar store

  • Has anyone tested the HP OMEN Accelerator on MacOS?

    • +1

It works with AMD cards however

      • So it's not possible Nvidia cards?

        • +1

Spec says it supports Nvidia cards.

          @jobski:
The latest Mac OS has issues running Nvidia card by default. I Am still tinkering with the settings.

        • @tris:

Oh I see, thanks for the feedback regarding Nvidia compatibility!

      Hey Detective Pikachu!

@Jobski beat me to it - it supports Nvidia Cards. The latest Mac OS 10.13.4 further smooths out some of the fiddling that had to be done previously with Nvidia cards/MacOS.

    • I got my unit yesterday. MacBook Pro 13, 2016, Touch Bar. It works great in Windows 10. I could see the Omen in MacOS under "Thunderbolt" but I could not then see the GTX 1060. Might require some fiddling. MacOS 10.13.5 Beta (17F45c). Tried to install latest Nvidia drivers. NOTE: The latest web drivers are not compatible with my (Beta) OS.

The HP Omen accelerator is needlessly huge. Its 15L cubic capacity is made even more huge by the legs being positioned at angles which makes the actual dimensions even larger. That said its a ripper deal for a eGPU at present because of the included GTX1060 and 1 TB 7400 RPM hard disk. It also makes for an excellent dock for an ultrabook due to the plethora of ports. I am using it without issues on both a HP Elitebook and a Lenovo Yoga 720. Just need to check that your laptop's USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3. Much to my dismay my Yoga 910 does not. There are instructions available on youtube to remove the legs, and some are just ditching the box and using the skeleton.

    • Awesome and detailed writeup @laser - thank you! I'm sure there will be plenty of people out there removing the legs/box etc and using the skeleton also.

    • Just need to check that your laptop's USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3.

How does one do that? lol doesn't matter with my laptop anyway as it only has USB 3.0 :(

  • can it support GTX1080TI ? anyone please advise,

    • Hi fishace; it definitely can. You will just need to purchase a 6-to-8 pin adapter for the PSU to connect the 1080ti.

We have these Here - Startech 6-to-8 pin adapter

      Hope this helps!

      • Thanks. if order today, when u can deliver? what courier company do you use?

        • The delivery is extremely fast and was Fastway in my case. I ordered on friday afternoon and was at my door Monday morning.

        • Hi Fishace,

Order handling time is generally within 24 hours (Mon-Fri), and we use Toll or other Couriers depending on your location.

          Hope this helps!

  • This or Aorus Gaming Box? Need it for my machine learning PhD (or possibly some gaming, or maybe not).

  • Gutted to have missed this, any chance another deal will be back soon? I noticed it was only 7 days since the last one..

  • Apparently the HP Omen is still available at the above price using code PICKYOURS (until 30/04/18)
