With the Lifestyle membership, does that mean we do not need to be a RACQ insurance member, therefore this is open to everyone?

Be sure to check out the OzBargain wiki for other discounted eGift card offerings.

    • +1

      That's correct :)

      • +1

Thanks for clarifying that and posting this deal! :D Wish I knew about this sooner!

  • They’ve kind of killed it for larger purchases. With many (maybe all) of the retailers, you can now only buy gift cards at $50 max, capped at 10 per month. It used to be great when you could purchase virtually any amount in one go. They changed it in February.

    • That is bad, what's the point of using these then

    • +4

You can buy bigger cards, you just manually input the amount up to $500 and quantity and press add to cart.

      • Nope, at least not with JB HiFi or The Good Guys anymore (haven’t tried others). You can manually put in any amount, but if you enter over $50 it automatically reduces it to $50 when you add it to your cart. Try it.

        • +4

Hmm weird, works perfectly for me, I ordered a $335 JB GC the order day without a hassle as well.

        • +2

@doweyy: Yep sorry, I take back, it’s now working fine. Throughout March it wasn’t the case for some reason (other people also commented on it on the previous post).

        • @aja12:

No worries at all, maybe they were just told by the vendors during march to reduce the limits :)

        • This is exactly what happened to me last week when I purchased 10x $50 gift cards. Wouldn't let me change it to anything more. Strange!

        • @robhung: Oh good, I’m not going crazy then!

    • 10 of each kind, or 10 in total?

  • RACQ is for VIC residents only?
I tried apply from NSW and the customer service person advised they do not allow and cancelled my application.

    • +35

assumed Q was for Queensland, not Qictoria .. ;-)

      • Yep sorry RACV and RACQ is similar.
        Thanks for the correction.

    • Does anyone else from other states able to signup?

      • RAC wa

        • so RAC WA customers can sign up for RACQ discount program, do you need to have premium with RAC i think we just have roadside assistant, i just want cheapest place to get EB games egiftcard discounted.

        • @spedstyle: none that I see. Just post on classifieds and someone should help you out by buying for you

        • @spedstyle:

Check the Wiki. EB Games cards are cheaper through Blatchys Blues.

        • @Zak: Are these different from eg. Bupa letting me buy Hoyts tickets 25% off?

        • @idonotknowwhy: Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re asking.

        • @Zak:

I assume theyre wondering if Bupa will come help out if they lock their keys in their car or need a tyre changed.

      • Unless they've changed it since I signed up (last year when I saw the original post) I had no issues signing up online and I'm from WA.

    • The T &Cs doesn’t say anything about members need to reside in QLD

  • Can you pay by amex for jbhifi/myer?

    • no

    • Link your amex to google pay/apple pay and pay with your phone. I haven't tried yet, but I guess it might work…?

      • Yeh, the sucky thing is can't use amex 😒

      • +1

Nah doesn't, I've tried amex via Android pay but if the merchant doesn't accept it still won't process. It's not like PayPal

  • +2

    Does NRMA offer the same?

    • They only do WW wish cards

  • i bought this at the tail end of last year, gotten my money's worth several times over already. love it!

  • Is the site working as last 5 times I have had too call and they were useless….site was broken!

  • Well worth it. I have used it a lot over the past few months.

  • +2

Best thing is that the gift cards almost all come instantly.

  • Yes, I have used it alot last year.

  • To be a member they are not free? What about RAA in South Aust?

  • Potential to buy Coles Myer gift cards at Kmart/Target at 7.5% discount via gift card-ception? Anyone done this?

    • Most stores try to stop you from buying gift cards with gift cards. Sometimes people can get around it. I personally have not done it.

  • For those that are in other states - couldn't you just add a random QLD address - after all it's not like your physically being sent anything

    • +1

Not sure why the negative votes? I was wondering the same thing.

      • -1

Yeah was wondering the same - i'm just pretty keen to save 5% on our weekly Coles shop ;)

    • +1

I have been advised by RACQ that you do not need to be a resident of Queensland to join RACQ as a Lifestyle member.

I didn’t neg you by the way.

  • Have been using this for instant gift cards, except wish gift cards are not instant

  • Do RACQ accept Amex for payments to buy these gift cards?

    • Unfortunately not.

  • Hm, maybe use JB Hi-Fi 6% for the new GoW game? Brings it down to about $66ish delivered. Not bad.

    • why not price match it at EB games and get 7% giftcard

      • Hey, good point. I liked the DLC better for JB, but not sure if EB will price match Big W or JB.

  • Best app for managing various eGift cards?
(I've started using Woolworths "Money" app, but so far I've only put wish gift cards in it from cashrewards.

    • stocard?

    • +1

I just have the e-gift card portal page as a link on my phone and they all sit in a wallet within the portal

  • Do you still earn Flybuys if paying with a gift card at Coles/Target/Kmart?

  • Despite their FAQ mention no limit, they do have monthly purchase limit ~$6000.

    • As per comment above, there seems to be quantity restriction as well.

Suncorp is much better and it is free. Just open account with them and call them to get registration link.

  • +2

Also, i have used them a few times and have had delays of up to 3 days receiving the cards (all EB games). Very annoying when i'm going to buy the game and it takes forever. Only been instant once.

  • -1

Does NRMA have this offer too, historically?

    • +1

No. Just 5% off Woolworths vouchers

  • +1

I just wanna say that these gift cards have been a godsend over the past year, feels so good getting double discounts on sale items!

  • My employer uses Reward Gateway as our benefit provider.

Has everything above + more at higher percentages. Would recommend whispering in HR's ears to look into them ;-)

    • Me too… Crappy thing is they charge a fee for certain credit cards which dilutes the savings

Altho having said that some cards (eg woolies /coles/DJ) are instant which is great

  • Is there a credit card surcharge when buying these?

    • +1

No surcharge, but the card will require verification with a 4 digit code.

This is a problem with some cards like Coles Mastercard as it doesn't instantly update.

    • Won’t credit cards charge you cash advance rates for buying gift cards?

      • Very much doubt it.

      • Why would it? It’s not cash, and your making a purchase from a business.

  • +1

Many unions also offer the same set of discounts to members. Worth checking if you are a union person.

  • +1

Membership of the RACQ is free if you are a Queensland student in the 16-18 year old age bracket, see https://www.racq.com.au/roadside-assistance/roadside-assista…

Yes, you can get the discounted gift cards with this membership. On the above link, click on the bit that says "Access to the free2go program benefits.", then "access to discounts". You'll then have to scroll down to the discount labelled "egift cards". Note that you can only view which cards are available after you have membership and are logged in.

  • Are these physical gift cards you can take into store to buy things, or just ecards where you have to buy stuff online?

    • They are eGift cards but you can still use them in-store.

The WISH cards are also available as physical cards.

      • +1

thanks - i will have to get one and give it a try

        • I should have included the information in the post to begin with. I’ve updated.

  • Since they dont accept amex do they accept paypal? Appears that there isn't a cc surcharge which is great

    • +1

They only accept visa, MasterCard and bank transfer.

  • Im a member of rac wa do get discounts on these gift cards if so what do i need to do?

  • Is this an ongoing offer from racq? Or they only offer discounted gift cards occasionally? Or is their life style membership is discounted this time? Sorry, just wondering if it is worth paying annual fees if they only offered discounted gift cards a few times a year?

    • +2

Yes it's ongoing and the yearly membership is always the same, it's a great offer.

They've had this since about August last year.

      • Thanks for clarifying. I just wondered

  • can you use this offer as racv member?

  • +2

A great modern con. Take something that is usable anywhere and never expires and swap it for something only usable in one store and that expires in 12 months.

With the membership fee you're on the hook for buying $500 before you break even. Then the store limits how many it accepts. Plus you're now forced to go to that store and likely fall for other marketing tricks.

There's a reason they're giving away 5%. It's because they know they'll likey make 10% or more back

    • I agree that gift cards are a con. But giving cash to someone is less formal.

Gift cards were intended for the purpose of giving to someone as gift to spend as they please (looks better with a congratulations or happy birthday card than giving cash, though is less useful than cash).. not for you to buy things discounted for yourself, which seems to be what most OZBers do with their gift cards.

  • is RACQ only for Queensladers?

  • How do we use the coles one in store..?

    • +1

I haven't used e-gift cards, but I suspect they'll have a barcode within the email, just like the physical gift cards have. Zoom into this on your phone, so it almost fills the screen. There is a second barcode reader at all checkouts, which can read barcodes from phone screens. At attended checkouts it is beside the EFTPOS terminal, looking down, so you hold your phone under it. On self-serve checkouts, it's to the side of the main screen, and usually has some flybuys pamphlets on top of it.

Pro tip: if you take a photograph of the barcode on your flybuys card, you'll never need to carry it with you again. Just bring the photo up on your phone, and hold it under the scanner.

The scanners are a bit fussy about how far away you should hold your phone. The store assistants are pretty good at spotting people having this difficulty, and will show you the correct distance.

      • Cool thanks for that! I already have a barcode app on my phone for flybuys + TM discount lol

    • Russ is correct.

You’ll receive a barcode like this which you scan and then enter the pin.

Some staff members have a lot of trouble processing these cards, so you’ll need to be patient or use a self-checkout.

      • Can confirm This.
I buy coles egift cards all the time at a discount and just use the app "Stocard" to scan the barcode in and name it coles & (balance of card).

Then under the notes put the pin number.

The app can be protected with a pin etc.

  • +1

Am I blind or have they removed Baby Bunting this year?

  • I'm a member of rac wa do I need to sign up pay to get discount on these cards or as I'm a rac member not,if so what do. Need to do?

    • yeah i still dont know if RAC WA members can sign up for RACQ members discounts page i guess easiest way is to try sign up and put your members number in the RACQ sign up page to find out, my guess is will not work and the RACWA members discounts are terrible compared to RACQ unless you like a few cents off petrol or cheaper tix to western force

  • How does RACQ benefit from customers buying these gift cards if we are saving money?
I am going to buy an iPhone outright from David jones online, if I buy a David Jones gift card I will save 10% off the purchase price is that correct?

    • +1

They are giving back to their members and also getting new ones through posts like this.

And yes that's correct, you can also price match elsewhere in store to save even further if they have it in stock.

Just make sure you get big denominations if buying online because of the 5 card limit online.

  • Can anyone confirm if there is a 1% visa/Mastercard fee when buying Coles egiftcards?

    • +3

Negative, no card fees whatsoever for mastercard or visa.
