Turkish Visa Required Changing Airline

Hi everyone,
I booked a cheap flight to Europe with Singapore airlines with destination port being Istanbul. We have a flight 5 hours later to Budapest with a different airline and under a seperate booking hence will have to collect luggage, go through customs (I assume??) and check in with the other airline.

Australian residents require a Turkish Visa. Even though I am only there for 5 hours will I have to pay for the Visa?

Thanks

First hit on a web search with Istanbul transit.

  • you can also do interline baggage transfer, what this means is the airline will try to print luggage tags all the way to Budapest , you need to do this though once you check in with Singapore.

I did mine with Royal Brunei all the way to Dubai then had another flight with Emirates to another destination, they couldn't do this in Melbourne but could do this in Dubai.
Second time I flew Emirates to KL and then had a connecting flight with Malaysian to Bangkok, They routed the bags for me to Bangkok without myself moving to Immigration.

    • Can the airlines do that even if they're not partners?

  • yes they can mate, https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/au/travel-info/check-in/c…
Depends on which airline you are using to travel to Budapest
