Hey oz bargainers. This is my first deal so go easy :D

This was found in the St Kilda branch in Melbourne.
36 Cans for $20.99 ($1.55 per litre) or
30 Cans for $19.99 ($1.78 per litre)
All cans are 375ml size.

    Is this Australia wide?

    If in NSW/SA/NT/can-refund it's a great deal - comes to ~58c a can + 10c back = 48c a can

    • I didn't realise there was a can back system :o

    • +2

So far I have filled the back of my ford wagon twice and got $35 the first time and $28 the second. When you consider all the time and effort collecting every can everyone in my family drinks and then going to the depot I'd hardly call it a bargain. More like a complete waste of time. And yet I don't want to leave that money in government hands.

      • +3

When you grow up in a place that does this, you just automatically throw the bottles/cans in a separate bin. Then cash them in every couple months or so. No effort needed at all, just a nice pay cheque when you do the trip

        • i have them clogging up half of a living space and empty every couple of months. As I said filling up the back of my ford wagon, not some little bin. and the one collection center anywhere near that takes them is out of my way. So I'm burning petrol to save the environment and pay myself below minimum wage to do it. Yay me.

        • @syousef: Maybe buy a can crusher? Reduces the size by 90%

        • @thedude23:

          1. You aren't allowed to crush them.

          http://returnandearn.org.au/faq

"What condition do my containers have to be in to be eligible?
Containers should be empty, uncrushed, unbroken and have the original label attached. Wine, spirits, cordial and plain milk containers are generally not eligible. If your container does not have a label it may not be recognised as an eligible container by a reverse vending machine.

If a container isn’t eligible for a refund, please use a recycling bin."

          1. I'd have to spend at least a year's worth of profit to buy the can crusher. When 2-3 months gets you $28, you have to avoid using bags and containers that aren't free if you want to make it worthwhile.

          2. So much for saving the planet if you're now buying and running new equipment and driving more to play tin can garbage man.

          3. If you could crush them an old boot with a reliable thick sole would do the same job.

        • +1

@syousef: Wow that sucks. I must admit I know nothing of can returns living in Victoria. ALso yeh the old boot works, but a can crusher is 10x as efficient. I bought one from amazon for $10 just to fit me more trash in the recycling.

        • @thedude23:

If stop torturing myself over $100/yr and go back to putting them in the bin I might consider the same. My father in law will roll his eyes at me if I do though chuckle.

      • +1

I give the money to my kids and teach them to pick up litter at the same time.

        They are ecstatic with $1.10

If they knew they could potentially get what you are I imagine they would start trawling through peoples bins on recycling day…

        • Except that the only return center worth going to is no where near where we shop. I have to make the trip especially. If you could return the cans and bottles where you bought them that'd be great. But I live in Sydney and find it inconvenient. For someone out in the sticks it must be impractical.

        • @syousef: Aren't you physically impaired?

I am physically impaired and cannot use my local reverse vending machine; how can I return my containers?
If you have any issues accessing a reverse vending machine due to visual or physical impairment, please use an over-the-counter collection point, which you can find on our map, or contact Tomra Cleanaway on 1800 290 691, and they will be able to assist you.

      • It’s not even the government. Coke and the other industry big players keep the 10c.

"How is Return and Earn different from my council kerbside collection?
Eligible containers can continue to be placed in the kerbside system as Return and Earn will complement kerbside recycling. Kerbside recycling is geared toward containers you consume at home, some of which aren’t eligible for a refund under Return and Earn. If you put eligible containers in kerbside recycling, the refunds may go towards improved waste services in your area."

Can't remember where on the site I read that they estimate the number of containers collected and it goes to the collector (council). Although who knows what you can believe.

        • @syousef:

That’s if you put it in a normal recycling bin and the cab arrives uncrushed. If you don’t recycle or the recycling truck has a crusher then coke keeps the 10c.

      • +1

You are also saving the environment a little too.

        • No you aren't. That's just a fairytale.

          • The recycling bins we use were suppose to be taking care of this already. Although I hear now China won't even take our recycling.
          • Now many people drive kms out of their way burning fossil fuels to do busywork.
          • And then to move all those bottles from various collection points to a processing center. Heck the sorting and counting machines at the automated depots must consume a lot of electricity. Then the computers to pay you.

The stated goal of the program is to reduce liter. Which is also likely to be a fail when you have to keep bottles and cans uncrushed and intact. The jackass littering isn't going to think he's going to be rich over 10c. The actual amdunstated goal is to tax people covertly and pass the money on to businesses to do busy work.

The whole thing is a scam. I just don't like leaving money on the table.

      • +1

In EU it works like this in many places:
Every shop that sells softdrinks and batteries has to accept emty bottles and used batteries.
So every time you buy groceries you can take your bag of bottles back. And get your refund. So its one trip - no extra effort!
Also shops can arrange the logistics so that emty supply trucks leaving the store can take the bottles away.
In theory minimal extra environmental impact and hassle.

        Happy earth day!

        • That would certainly be more convenient, and might help if done well. But you still have to think of all the trucks driving around collecting the damn things, machines for sorting and counting, and other equipment running all day to support the scam erm I mean scheme. I can't see it ever being a net win over simply collecting a separate recycling bin.

        • @syousef: i agree, simpli collecting in a separate pins would be cheaper. And it works quite well in some parts of Germany, but in general people dont bother and collection rates in case of voluntary recycling are quite low.
Some day we will get there.
You still need sorting and counting going on. Producers need to verify how many % of bottles are being collected. And also, some glass bottles will be reused.

  • Looks like it they sell it same price as Costco in vic all stores

    • Is it always 20.99 at costco? Not sure how to find prices for costco online.

      • Was there today

      • yes I can confirm that Costco VIC is always A$20.99 for 36 cans (A$0.583/can).

The cheapest though is usually Woolies who do A$17.22 for 30 cans (A$0.574/can) from time to time.

        • Sometimes you can get the 24 cans for close to $10 at Colesworths.

        • @serpserpserp:

Never seen it as a n offer.
Usually it's for those that are close to the UseBy or damaged packaging or Pepsi.
          Never Coke.

        • +1

          @ofey:

Checked my facts, under $13 for colesworth coke for 24 cans and it was $10 for the 18 can slabs. That was where I was confused.

  • do you have a picture?
i seem to recall only seeing the 30pk at my local

    • Sorry I had trouble with the picture at first but it should be up there now.

  • Sounds like cheaper than water

  • -1

    Sorry i was thinking pepsi

  • This price is not that amazing, I've seen Coles/Woolies do 50c per can from time to time.

In any case, I try to avoid soft drink these days…

    • +15

In any case, I try to avoid soft drink these days…

…but not the soft drink threads.

    • -1

Ive seem $5/24 pk aus wide so ? you can't get the price anymore

  • I spotted coke today at Costco 2x12 packs 375mill $9.98

    • +5

If you took a photo you should post a separate deal at 42c a can that is an amazing deal.

    • +1

Wow that's the cheapest I've ever seen Coke. A$0.42/can is ridiculous!
You should post that as a OzBargain deal!

      • Just spoke to Costco. Only had on special Coke No Sugar yesterday for $4.98 for a pack of 12. Regular Coke not on special.

  • -2

Been that price for a few weeks…can find it cheaper at other places when on special.

  • -5

Got a better deal on Pepsi Max today; 30 cans for $14.50. 48c a can or $1.29 per Litre.

    • +1

      Eww..

    • +5

Pepsi ain’t Coke. It’s traditionally been cheaper.

      • Yeah it's always been cheaper. The 2L at woolies(or coles?) is always 2 dollars or something

        • 2 l Pepsi Max at reject shop $1.69

    • -1
  • +2

30 cans for $19.99 is quite average, woolworths and coles often have sales for 30 cans for $18,

in fact coles have one for this week

    • +1

Yes but because it’s aldi it will get 200 upvotes and thousands of views.

They certainly know how to suck people in this mob.

    • The 36 cans price is the better option and what I think most people are voting on.

  • -1

Seriously, who wants to drink that sh t..

    • +2

Seriously, who doesn't want to drink that sh t..

  • Not trying to be a downer, but this isn't overly cheap. I won't buy a carton of pepsi max / coke zero unless it's at 50c a can or less, and that happens fairly frequently at woolies or coles, either in the bigger 24 / 30 can blocks, or even in the 10 packs.

    • +7

coke hasnt been 50c a can for years at coles woolies, happy to be proven wrong

      • +3

Agreed. iirc cheapest seems to be about 58c a can in the last few years.

      • I know for a fact two weeks ago I bought 2x 10 packs of pepsi max (one vanilla, one regular) for exactly $5 each. I think it was at Woolies, may have been Coles though idk, and generally speaking I seem to pick up 30 packs for 15-16 dollars every now and then. Maybe some of the time it's more in the 55-60c range, but I know I have definitely bought them at 50c a can with a lot of my purchases.

  • -2

Does the total cost per can include the sugar tax?

  • drakes had this deal on here last week $11.70 for 24 which scales to 49c per can. Strange this deal getting such a plug?

    • +2

The Drakes deal had one massive chunk of fine print - you had to be in South Australia to get it.

Given 93% of the Australian population DOESN'T live in South Australia, a nationwide offer that you can actually take advantage of is actually a better deal for most people here.

    • +1

Can't believe I missed the post.

  • +3

Wow, didn't expect so many people to come to this deal to complain about: not wanting to drink Coke, Pepsi being cheaper, or this deal not being cheap enough. I'm up for an offer better than this to be shared if people know of one?

    • My deal is not drink coke or other soft drinks. It's free too. Don't have to worry about recycling because you are not generating rubbish either.

  • -1

Solve your problem and simply don't drink this sugar filled SHIT…

    • You don't have to drink it, why come here to complain about it?

  • +1

ULP and coke now at price parity

  • Isn’t 30 cans at about $17 when mostly on sale by Wollies and Coles?
