LF Room Air Purifier (Eg Xiaomi Air Purifier 2)

Hi guys, a few months ago I remember seeing the hype of air purifiers specifically the Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 being posted as a bargain but never felt the need to grab one. Not sure if it’s a placebo or if I’ve become more aware of myself, but over the past few months I have been noticing a dry throat feeling when I wake up + I know my room is dusty (before knowledge of air purifiers).
I want to eliminate the dust risk factor in my room with an air purifier;

TLDR (got lazy typing) has anyone seen bargains for decent air purifiers or the Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 for under 169 delivered?

Recommendations of where to look are also welcomed

  • F*&k mate I live on a dirt road and all the dust from each vehicle floats right through my window so my room is dusty as hell 24/7. Would an air purifier help?

    No placebo effect for us, we definitely noticed an improvement in our sleep quality with the Xiaomi Air Purifier 2. At the time, we couldn't justify paying extra for the updated model (2s).

    • How often do you change the filter and what do you pay for them? Is the ongoing cost better than other brands?

      • Still using the filter that came with the unit. You can get filters from Ebay sellers and the usual Chinese sites.

        Filter lifespan depends on your environment and intensity of use but Xiaomi quote 3-6 months. No experience with other brands so cannot comment on ongoing cost. When comparing costs, consider that Xiaomi has an integrated filter design (all filtration layers in one unit).

        Apart from the purifier, consider what you could do to reduce dust ingress. For example window seals etc.

        Also, apparently the 2s had a more accurate particle sensor. Personally I just use manual mode and set the fan speed to suit our room size.

      • Cheapest normal price I've seen for filters is $39.99 US. Xiaomi recommend 6 months before replacement, but you could easily get 12 months as our air is generally cleaner and a quick vacuum will suck out the dust.

  • Just out of curiosity, for those who have the xiaomi do you run it continuously 24x7?

    • +1

      Our lounge unit runs continuously in winter but the fan speed is regulated by Mi Home automation rules based on pm2.5 level.

  • Update: I decided to buy a xiaomi air purifier 2 off Kogan ($169) and purchased a 30off 120 spend for $3.33 from eBay, totalling ~$143.

    Thanks for the comments

    • Thanks for the update, hope the unit serves you well.
