  • Lol.. For the extra 5 bucks.. go for the Optus's Galaxy S9 deal or Telstra's Pixel2 XL deal for less ($59). It's a no brainer unless you are an Apple fanboi that is dying for a 2 year old model.

    • Lol @ Apple fanboi. They need to be belted hardcore.

go for the $49 s8 deal sell it and buy an iphone 7.

  • +1

    Isn't there an 8?

    • +1

Yes, the 8 is faster, although the 7 is still one of the fastest phones anyway, if that means anything. Similarly the 8 has a better camera, but at this stage the 7 is still pretty damn good.
The 8 also has wireless charging if you care about that.

That said, this doesn’t seem that great a deal in comparison to other phones Optus has on offer, although this doesn’t look like a lease like those others.

      • Is this year's model going to be the 9 or 8S?

Will there be a XI or XS?

What happens when the arabic numerals catches up with the roman numerals? i.e. iPhone 10?

        • IPhone ٩ <—- 9 in Arabic.

        • @alz: Thanks for that lesson.

What happens when the "home button" series reaches 10?

  • +3

iPhone 8's (albeit 64GB) were going for $59/month back in December on Optus with 20GB data.

This deal doesn't look anything special, especially as it is for a model that was released 1.5 years ago.

    • +1

Any chance for this iPhone 8 deal coming back? Perhaps at EOFY ?

      • Yeah the iPhone 8 deal will come back when it's like 1.5 years old.

      • get the $49 s8 deal , sell it add an extra 250 to buy iphone 8. will work out about $59 a month over 2 years.

  • Ah nice.

people need to get over this envy thing why do people buy a small terrace in sydney or melbourne and not a large house on the urban fringes ….. it’s because of the experience they want and what they can afford…. why do some people pay $40 for fillet steak and others $8kg for sausages, they are both animal protein.

same with phones personal choice and what we are willing to pay for an experience.

not sure why android users ( i have an android phone) keep on going on about how expensive iphones are even as they get older ….. some things keep value, some things don’t, and we shouldn’t be envious that out phones halve in value in 12mths, it’s why i buy android, flagship phone 1/2 price in 12 mths ( have lg v20, axon7).

If people are ios users they stick with ios as it’s easy to upgrade, android, and some people have privacy concerns with google and you can’t have a useful, android phone without gmail, etc.

also some people don’t want to spend the time to learn another ecosystem, they are buy and have other stuff to do.

age of a phone …… people pay for the whole experience of software and hardware, and as my android has gone for 6xx processor to 8xx processor it hasn’t changed my life, and i don’t even look at processors or cameras anymore just screen size, and what version of android do i get before it is end of support.

it's highly unlike that Google doesn't own the data of Apple users. Who doesn't use google as their search engine? Until Apple offers their own search engine, google owns everyone. And a lot of people use Gmail too. Does Apple have their own mail service? Yeah, if you use gmail, google knows everything you buy, what products you are interested in, where you shop, what's on the way. If you use their search engine, they know what kind of stories interest you, what tech fetishes you have, what your favorite sports teams are, which celebs you find amusing, etc.

I don't think avoiding Android is going to keep you from Google's clutches. They're ubiquitous now and it's too late.

    • Because they're trying to justify their purchase and it's cool at hate on apple also they probably don't like apple because how much bigger it is to Android/Samsung.

      • Apple may be bigger than Samsung but not Android. Android still has a bigger share vs iOS

    • "why do some people pay $40 for fillet steak and others $8kg for sausages, they are both animal protein."

I choose steak over sausage due to all the extra bits in sausages: fat, skin, bones and whatever else. Not all "proteins" are the same. I guess you don't even lift.

  • Nearly 2 year old phone
    No deal

    • That's just the Apple way.
