What Are The Best Value/Quality Mattresses?

I've been looking on Ozbargain a bit for mattress recommendations and I see a lot of recommendations for ZZZ Atelier and Marce Blanc but i'm looking for a definitive answer for which is better or if there is some other supplier that is better than both.

Comments

  • Also interested in this as I need a bed, possibly single bed, to sleep in while training my child to sleep independently

  • Can't personally vouch for zzz atelier as I'm yet to purchase one but their prices and reviews are amazing

    • Zzz atelier and marce blanc both seem to have similar prices and positive reviews. So I'm just trying to find someone who can help make the choice easier.

      • marce blanc has those fancy layers … coconut, cool gel, latex, foam, etc.

i prefer firmer and less foam layers, hence went for zzzateliear assured firm, still liking it.

        • I like a firm bed but my Mrs likes plush so I might be better off going with Marce Blanc in that case.

        • @Dowhatuwant: I got a zzz king at the start of the year, it's been great so far, got it for $280 something delivered.

Didn't have a base/frame for it at first so had it on the floor and it was soft.

Got a frame from them on Friday and on slats it's much softer.

    Hardwood floor is recommended

      Hardwood is expensive though.

  • I'm personally eyeing out a Koala Mattress.

Its not necessarily 'the best' mattress, but 'the best' varies due to personal preferences.

I'm looking at this mattress as they allow you to return it within 120 days and get all of your money back. There are plenty of other 'bed in a box' companies, but Koala provide the best customer service when it comes to actually returning the mattress.. They have them in selected Myer stores for you to try out also.

I have invested in a 'high quality' mattress before and it just wasnt for me.. but I was stuck with it.. so it was a waste of money…

    • Have had a Koala for the last few weeks, was a little too soft for our liking, and the edges don't feel quite as supportive, in the middle of the return process now (applied yesterday). They certainly have good customer service. YMMV. I never realised they were in certain stores, otherwise would have trialed first.

We bought a Sleeping Duck about 2 years ago and no complaints. They will send out different inners if you find the one that comes with it is too soft or hard.

  • I've got one of the sealy posturepedic beds. Somewhat expensive, but it's incredibly comfy and when you spend so long in it, it sorta pays for itself over time.

    • What price for something you spend so much time on.

I wouldn't buy anything else after experiencing three.

I'm unfamiliar with the OP's choices of ZZZ Atelier and Marce Blanc

  • You need to try them out before you buy.

I went through my research phase of mattresses a couple years ago, and Tempur was consistently rated as one of the best. However, when I had a chance to try it out in-store, it just wasn't for me, even trying the many different hardnesses.

You've gotta try it in-store in order to have the best decision. Use only the online order ones without trying if they offer hassle free returns if you don't like them.

  • The definitive answer is that there is no definitive answer (or does that mean there is a definitive answer??).

Beds are very subjective, so there is no clear X is best, Y is second best, etc. There is also unlikely to be many people who have tried out more than one or two different (recent) beds, so their assessment of a mattress is not relative to other mattresses.

You have mentioned two of the best reviewed eBay mattresses from what I have seen, so work out which one suits you more and give it a shot.
