Taken from website:

War and Peace is considered one of the world’s greatest works of fiction. It is regarded, along with Anna Karenina, as Tolstoy’s finest literary achievement.

Epic in scale, War and Peace delineates in graphic detail events leading up to Napoleon’s invasion of Russia, and the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist >society, as seen through the eyes of five Russian aristocratic families.

never mind - it’s more like aspirational reading anyway, like “A Brief History of Time.” Leave it for retirement.

Did you know the original title was "War, What is it good for"?

    • Thanks, Elaine. I'm impressed, honest.

    • Absolutely nothing, listen to me

    • Companies producing offensive and defensive weapons? Peace is time for making more for next war.

  • :)

I also prefer Karenina's working title "Oopsy fell on the tracks, LOL", the publisher again thought it was too much of a spoiler

  • This book is in public domain and hence free for millions of years

  • It's worth paying for a better translation of War and Peace, the public domain editions might have translations which are too archaic or bowdlerised for modern tastes. Then again, based on the reviews for this Amazon listing, the translation in this might not be any good either…

  • I loved Toltoys a kid, now I get to read a book about them!
