21st Birthday Present for a Male

My grandson is about to turn 21 and I need help/ideas for a present. He doesn't have a job, a car or a drivers licence. He's only interest seems to be gaming. He is kind and helpful when asked and has great parents and siblings. I'm looking for genuine sensible ideas - no smart arse replies please..Thanks in advance.

As an Asian, I say give him money. That's how we roll. How much though, is up to you. $300 cash is a fine present for a 21 year old. Hell, even I would appreciate that at my age.

And unless there is a government-toppling catastrophe cash is the gift voucher that won't be revoked.

  • If you think there's any chance he would read it https://www.amazon.com.au/12-Rules-Life-Jordan-Peterson/dp/0…

    • Awwww Yisss

  • The Richest Man in Babylon. Wish I read that at 21.

  • This looks like a fun gift: https://www.brickx.com/

Has anyone got any experience with this type of "investment"? My initial suspicion is that it would be hard to get your money out (unless you were prepared to take a loss, and the properties they hold seem very low yielding.

  • Just buy him humble bundle subscription for a year and get 1 month free. He will get free games every month and it will be a nice surprise of games .

  • The love of our lord and savior Jesus Christ.

  • Poor kids getting lambasted.

What about something from https://www.redballoon.com.au/ or https://www.adrenaline.com.au/

Im not sure which young person these days would appreciate a watch.

Is he into adventure? Maybe a Go Pro? Maybe a gun range/shooting club?

If hes the type that has everything, I would give him the money or buy something for half the price and give him the rest in cash.

Im kinda hard to shop for myself, dont really celebrate my birthday but I appreciate the gesture of throwing a party. Id rather have $100 than a $100 perfume to add to my never-ending collection.

Wowgo 2s electric skateboard. Good fun and useful for short distance commutes. ~$400usd so perhaps a good joint present.

    • Hell yeah brother!

$300 of cryptos while the market is cool and December's buyers are still licking their wounds.

  • Stripper?

  • As someone who was in the exact same situation at 21 (having just finished a University degree), the best present I would suggest would be driving lessons and to ensure he sticks with them.

He may have no job or car currently but getting his license ASAP will help out with any endeavor he undertakes. Furthermore it may encourage him to go for those things if he does get his license.

Whilst it might not be such a great present in terms of he'll have nothing physical to show for his birthday/unwrap, the gift of learning to drive will be far more valuable to him.

If he is indeed not studying and not actively looking for work anything you give him to do with his interests in gaming are merely going to hinder his development/independence.

  • Get him a one-way ticket to Pattaya or Bangkok. He'd be forever grateful to you for sending him to a once in a lifetime sexperience.

  • Driving lessons. Not a smartass suggestion, a good, life long skill that will make him a safe driver.

Blows my mind how people don't think they're worth getting.

    • Worth getting if he's motivated enough to actually use them to obtain a license. Grandmother says he's not motivated to do very much.

Give him the cash with the suggestion of lessons and if he thinks it is a good idea he can use them for that. If he doesn't it isn't wasted.

Drives me absolutely insane that cash is not considered a thoughtful gift but gift cards are totally acceptable. Talk about being brainwashed.

  • a LAMY pen and decent stationery

  • A baseball cap and/or an over-sized hoodie.
