Samson Meteor USB Studio Microphone for $78 from JB-HI FI

Picked up one today and very impressed with the sound and build quality.

Seems to be a good deal, cheapest on Ebay is $100 ($90 after current 10% off deal)

Most places seem to sell them for atleast $115+

    Adult toys aren't allowed, OP.

These are suitable for kids to use for their YouTube video too.

      • YouTube has promised to hire more moderators to deal with those videos.

        • LOL guys. Please take your brains out from the gutter.

  • This mic has pretty good reviews, a few hundred on Amazon.

Nabbed it, thanks for the heads up.

  • I don't need it but it's tempting.

  • Great for starting out a Youtube Channel

    • Are these better or some other for the youtube videos?

      • Just that you can position it a lot better and doesn’t take up a lot of space.

        • How about the quality? We are working for a youtube channel so just wanted to know if this will do the job or you recommend something else?

        • @OSA: Servicable not the best but for the price you can’t go wrong.

  • Aren't dynamic microphones better?

      They're certainly more dynamic.

Looks like this deal could really take off.

I think this is what Aerosmith used to record I Don't Want to Miss a Thing.

  • Hey good find on a decent quality mic at a budget price. I had this on my watch list for months but a more expensive mic came on a great deal first otherwise I would be using one.

Picked one up a few years ago last time jb had them for around the same price, it's not a bad microphone for the price (actually rather good when you're right up in it and have the gain down)

I probably wouldn't go for it if you're the sort to have your mic on the desk / under the monitor and voice activation on in whatever voice chat you use. it'll pick up absolutely every little sound once you have the gain high enough to pick your voice properly at that distance.

  • Was going to ask if this would be a good mic for twitch streaming but from the sounds of that last comment it's probably a no?

    • The sound is very crisp and high quality, however as others mentioned it can pick up background noise. You will need a stand to put it closer to your mouth and turn down the levels. I think most switch streamers use a stand anyway

  • Store availability in QLD is terrible :(

  • Good spot OP, haven't seen this discounted before.

Picked it up to use for acoustic guitar recording, not many reviews for this use but much more reasonably priced than a mic with an audio interface.

  • if only it wasnt usb so i could use it with my 5d mkiv as well.

  • Just picked one up from the Werribee branch and tested it briefly last night, the sound quality is surprisingly good and will get you by for streaming content or podcasts (which I'm getting it for), it does pick up other ambient sounds so before recording just adjust the mics sensitivity settings. The added feature of having a 3.5mm jack at the back is a bonus, you can listen back as you're speaking without next to no lag/delay
