we were advised against it by the installers we contacted.
cost nearly twice as much as two individual units.

  For two heads it's maybe not worth it. We have four heads on one outdoor unit - wasn't that expensive ($4k). Individual units take up more space too.

      That was inclusive of installation of the heads and outdoor unit, gas etc. However we had internal pipework and electrics already installed, so that was additional cost and I don't know how much since it all got lumped in with a bunch of other work.
      
      The pipework is likely to cost a bit more than separate units since it's almost certainly going to need to go further, but otherwise it worked out cheaper since the heads are only $300 or so (2KW versions).
      
      Cost of the units by themselves was about $3.5k (Panasonic, 3x 2KW heads, 1x5KW head, 1 x 8KW outdoor).
