Need the Best Laptop for under $450

I need to buy a laptop for my old man. Must be 15 inch display, It's just for web browsing/watching videos, No gaming.
The best I could find in terms of specs was this -

HP 250 G6 Windows 10 Home 64
Intel® Core™ i3-6006U with Intel HD Graphics 520 (2.00 GHz, 3 MB cache, 2 cores)
4 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB)
500 GB 5400 RPM SATA

Any suggestions will be great thanks.

I would advise looking for an SSD machine as HDD are quite slow. Intel i3 is fine for what you're doing.
4GB of ram is a bit low though especially if you like to have lots of tabs opened up on google chrome.
Screen resolution is only 1366x768 but I guess it would be difficult to find a 1920x1080 machine in your budget.

EDIT: Would recommend having a look at the Dell Outlet if you don't mind refurbished.

    • He would not know the difference :P he just wants anything except refurbished ones. Have you or anyone bought refurbished ones from this outlet and had no probs?

      • I realise you’ll have already got something by now but anyway;

I’ve bought 2 laptops from the Dell outlet and they were spotless. They have different grades so as long as you get “as new” or “Refurbished” you should be fine. “Refurbished2” and “scratch/dent” you’ll actually see imperfections.

A mate has also bought a few for himself and family and also never had issues.

They actually have up to 25% off this week ending today so if you need something still and you’re quick…

The CPU is an AMD from 2016, but given your old man might be just surfing the web and isn't an Esports gamer, it'll do the trick. Already comes with SSD and 8GB of DDR4 memory so it's already read to use out of the box.

Wouldn't be bothering with anything using 5400RPM drives when many laptops nowadays have SSD right out of the factory.

There is also a cheaper option, but it might have gone by now.

  • If you only need it for Web browsing then get a chromebook

  • Can I ask all the people who have responded to this post and given examples to the OP where they got that info?

I know I take the time to google stuff like this for others find the best deal that appropriates to the request and post results.

And always wonder why the OP can't do it themselves (Google, visit each major players website sift through the deals) ? is it that the op(s) are lazy and want others to do the work syndrome or op is looking to find unlisted /advertised deal?

major players like retailers = "standard" deal

OP did some homework by ebay-ing but most likely he's not tech-literate hence picking shitty specs.

scrims suggested Dell DFO (outlet) which is a good deal with much better specs.
Most ppl only know Dell official web, hence forum topics like these allow ppl to share knowledge and learn from each other)

      • I do have some knowledge of specs, but at under 450 the specs that are half decent would be either be old gen or reconditioned.

    • @ShannonN Not lazy, I myself have a custom built PC. In terms of Laptops it gets a little difficult trying to get the best out of a low budget. Also I am not waiting for any deals as he needs it now. If you see my original post I already have one searched and had compared it to many other laptops and this was the best I could find that wasn't refurbished. Heck I wish I could of gotten the JB HiFi price error laptops lol.
