Centrelink Assurance of Support for Sponsoring Parents

Hi I filed for assurance of support with Centrelink more than 2 months ago now so I can sponsor my parents. It’s just so frustrating and something we really check our mailbox for everyday but they seem to be taking forever. Apparently if you contact to ask ETA it can be delayed more. I mean, I seriously don’t know what in my rights I can do. Is there no one regulating them - don’t they have a deadline to do tasks. I’m here ready to pay money so I can spend time with my family and they seem to not care at all.

  • Centrelink take forever with everything. A friend of mine went on the dole years ago it took 2 months for him to receive a payment and when he did it was back paid for all the weeks it was delayed

Have you thought there is a method to this madness?

By making it slow and painful and drawn out, it means that people find jobs instead of just putting a hand out, just like your friend.

    • Customers expecting an express lane when it’s money for nothing is silly.

Even for 2 items or less?

    Hi,

Understand your frustration. I have been waiting for years to get my parents to migrate here. I would like to provide the timeline in my experience for AoS.

12-Sep-17 Lodged AoS application with DHS
07-Oct-17 Received a letter from DHS to call for telephone interview (by 23-Oct)
10-Oct-17 to 20-Oct-17 Calls & supply of additional information (handed over at Centrelink office to be scanned & attached to file)
30-Oct-17 Received a letter from DHS asking for bank guarantee
02-Nov-17 Lodged bank guarantee with CBA
03-Nov-17 Sent bank guarantee details to DHS AoS
    Letter from DHS accepting AoS
14-Nov-17 Request from DIBP for 2nd payment
24-Nov-17 Visa ready for grant but waiting for parents to leave Aus (offshore visa)

    Be positive. Good luck.

    • Thanks for sharing. Sounds like your case is faster as I applied end of Feb :-( and still waiting for anything after that.

  • It’s just so frustrating

Yes people getting a free fastpass into the country are complaining about the wait time! Just crazy.

    • It's called becoming Australian by choice not by birth. I think the country would rather take people paying $55k to get it per person and get their parents close to them instead of people rocking up my boat or people who use that money because they are too busy to work. Don't want to start a thread here but your comment was unnecessary.

        people paying $55k

$55k is a bargain to live in one of the best countries in the world. an acquaintance started a $500k business to live here. the federal government change the minimum to ten times the tax-free threshold for migrants that wants to buy their way over here.

        • Compared to your numbers here yes it’s cheaper but your acquaintance probably does not have 50% of the kids here as residents who have worked their way to earn their status. Hence, it’s totally dependent on personal perspective what you consider bargain. Did people who were born here got a lottery then based on same grading ? Just based on the location of their birth ? Do people who freeload of Centrelink because they don’t want to work get a bargain ? At the end of the day we all have our situations and we put our best shot and we expect the best. At least we all here do else we won’t be on this website . So does that also mean people who come here deserve a bargain ? And people who don’t invest the time to come or don’t know don’t deserve a deal ?

no they didn't have any children here with a status. what they did have was the ability to meet the criteria for a business visa.

So does that also mean people who come here deserve a bargain ?

migrants that wants to buy a visa to enter and live in australia should be prepared to pay a fair price. ten times the tax-free threshold as a bond and no assistance from centrelink for ten years should be the minimum.

      • It's called becoming Australian by choice not by birth

No, its becoming Australian as you can afford it, in your case $110k.

Don't want to start a thread here but your comment was unnecessary.

Says the person complaining about waiting to bring people in on a fastpass visa by coughing up $110k. Yeah nah.

      • Have you already received the certification?

  • is this the loophole to Visa Subclass 103 that takes over 10 years ?

    • It's for the paid sponsorship visa where you pay like $55k per family member

  • @OP why ask a bargain forum re matters of Government procedure, do you think anyone here can say hang on I'll ring my brother who works at immigration and get him to push it through? LOL

Our gov departments may be pretty poor on things and full of politics and red tape for sure, but I'd like to believe the ppl in the dept investigate all ppl who suddenly want to come to Australia for whatever reason, criminal and financial records must be checked etc to ensure the newcomers are honest hardworking ppl that will integrate into traditional Aussie culture and not want a pension 2 years after the arrive

Just because a sponsor can throw money at the Gov dept doesn't mean they should be pushed up the queue and not be accessed like everyone else?

Fair question -> The reason I asked the question was to understand if I can question Centrelink without it being an issue, hoping to get insight if someone else had a similar experience and when did they get an update and also from a human point of view share my frustration on common issues on a public forum.

This process is separate from police check etc that you have to do from both countries and you are not eligible for any assistance like Centrelink for 10 years.

    • @OP why ask a bargain forum

Entitlement, they just paid $110k to fastpass their parents here on visas.

Its a little stamping of the foot, of why they haven't got there way yet.

So yeah, basically entitlement, rich persons issue.

      • So yeah, basically entitlement, rich persons issue.

an individual with true financial means wouldn't take this option. they would try something like a business visa where their money can really make a difference.

        • Well it’s def stamping the foot not denying that at all - I fulfilled the requirements - I deserve the result I’ve earnt it based on what the criteria was. You call it rich person issues I call it giving away a decade worth of saving working 7 days mostly through this time without those holidays and saving every cent so that you can be next to your parents in a developed country and then get judged by people who were born here and know nothing what’s it like but yeah clearly rich person issues. I was under the impression I would get advice like similar cases what happened when they had issues or what can work with Centrelink or how much time their applications took but I can understand why some would feel the way they do !! Every person has their own way to think and process and that’s what makes us who we are !!

        • @whooah1979 Rich enough to spend $110k, not rich enough to do the business visa option clearly.

        • @dealover: centerlink is never fast, so as long as its still within the timeframe they have given for processing, no amount of stamping your feet will move it along, and as you hinted at, if you come across doing this, then your case worker might shuffle the papers around a bit, you end end up back in the pile a bit a more.

saving every cent so that you can be next to your parents in a developed country

The flip side is, you could take your $110k and live like a king but home!

and then get judged by people who were born here and know nothing what’s it like

Well thats the way we are here in this country ;)

But I did judge correctly it seems, you are stamping your foot.

I wish you the best of luck, but you will need to wait your turn in the line. Thats how it works here, we line up and wait our fair turn.

        • @JimmyF: As much as your tone was more from an ego I agree with everything you’ve said. Their average wait is actually like 3-4 weeks for it but it’s been like 2+ months now . I see you mentioned about a business visa which I’m not 100% how it works but I guess it too late to apply residency that ways anyways. Also, there is only one thing I would like to disagree with about the part you say In this country that’s how things work - fair chance - wait for turn etc - well first - this country is just as much mine now as yours whether you accept it or not - for more than a decade I’ve paid my taxes just like every citizen and made my contributions to the community . Second , I don’t think it’s fair everytime anywhere whether its here where mental people get out of prison and drive cars and kill innocent peopl or whether instances in history or any other country but I guess you might have an answer for that too

        • @dealover:

but I guess you might have an answer for that too

Well I guess that answers which country you're from…..

Their average wait is actually like 3-4 weeks for it but it’s been like 2+ months now

Ok then, make the call and ask whats up with it!

  • Just wonder if you have received the AoS already? How long did it take in total?

    • I escalated with Centrelink after the long wait and was done after 2 weeks - you will have to be nice but firm with them to the point say I won’t go home in a nice way - good luck

  • Just wondering what they asked over the telephone interview?
