Cheaper prices are possible, just ask a rep for a discount and they will give you a code.

I had the Note 4X, dropped it and the screen cracked, the crack was small though :'(.
It's an absolutely beautiful and we'll speced phone at a bargain price but no Gorrila glass.
The best bang for buck of the bunch.
Can be had for about $180.

I now have the Mi A1, camera is better than the Note 4X
and it has Gorilla glass, I've dropped it several times and it has survived :), I also now have a tempered glass.
Android one will ensure it gets updates for 2 years, or just flash a custom rom that still gets updates.
2 years of updates is a nice plus, and I believe the A1 has the best camera of the bunch.
Can be had for about $240.

The Note 5 has Gorilla glass, and had the fastest SOC, the processor/graphics of the bunch.
If you want the fastest go for this I've.
    Can't remember it's bargain price.

The Mi Max has Gorilla glass, and a 6.4 inch screen.
I've really gotten used to my Mi A1 size, it now seems small lol, think my next phone will be a Mi Max.
If you want a big screen go for this one.
Can be had for about $280.

    • thanks for these details.

I am more inclined towards Redmi Note 5 ….I can get it for $240 from here:

how is battery life and camera compared with Mi A1 and Note 4?

      • Sorry was looking at the specs of the Redmi Note 5 Pro on GSM.

The Redmi Note 5, Mi A1 and Redmi Note 4 all have the same SOC.

The A1's battery is noticeably less than the Redmi Note 4's battery.
I don't game on my phone, I really only use the net (a lot), one charge on the A1 lasts a whole day and 25-10% remaining for the next day.
So yeah based on my use the battery easily gets me through the day.

If the camera is important for you I'd go for the A1, if it isn't get the RN5.
The RN4 is an awesome phone and very cheap but it doesn't have Gorilla glass and for me that is very important, someone on Ozbargain said a tempered glass on the Redmi Note 4 will survive a drop and I'm convinced it will.
I'm going to replace my A1's battery when it needs a new one, so I plane on keeping it for a long time and having Gorilla glass might just save me.

  • Why dont you go for redmi note 5 pro?

    • was looking/waiting for it but apparently it was sold out within less than 30seconds from the flipkart site (only place where it was available).

    • anyone know when the redmi note 5 pro will become more widely available?

  • I had a Redmi Note 4 a while back for a specific reason. I'm not a fan of MIUI, and the RN4 has LineageOS support. The Mi A1 is also stock Android.

  • Honestly I would just get a tablet in the 8 inch range with cellular.

    I have a Huawei Mediapad M3 8.4" 32gb 4gb RAM WiFi only tablet and a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X 5.5" 64gb 4gb RAM phone.

I love my tablet it is awesome and the only thing the phone does better is take selfie pictures and fit in my pocket otherwise my tablet does everything better from media to gaming to typing and emailing.

Just get a small bag to carry it around in.

Only keeping the Xiaomi for now because I like experimenting with both phone factors with apps and web browsing and overall some apps aren't recognized with my WiFi only device.

So hard to go back to a phone only from a large screen tablet.

Imho above 8.4 inches is too big. 7.1. would probably be the sweet spot.

Also 1440p content is pretty sweet YouTube has some and some other sites if you know how to look for them.

  • Bro, don’t buy from India, as Indian variants have far less LTE bands. I can bet you that you’ll have network issues here in OZ with one of the indian models. Best would be to buy from China/Hongkong with Global Rom. They have more LTE bands.

    Please note -

Redmi Note 5 Pro is called Redmi Note 5 in China

    But has…

    • Much better Rear Camera
    • More LTE Bands
    • Android Oreo 8.0 Out of the box (Indian variants still running on Android 7.1)

    Here is the difference

Ask one of the reps for the best price and they will do it.

    Good Luck… enjoy your holidays

    • Thanks a lot bro.
Btw, have we had any deal on Redmi Note 5 (from China/Hongkong with Global Rom) on OZB yet?
