Maternity Clothing for Petite Woman

Just wondering if anyone has some tips for my wife re: maternity clothing.

She is a very petite girl, 4"9', 41kg (before pregnancy) and it is damn hard to find much in her size.
We have started looking at ASOS and Ripe online as a starting point, but wondering if anyone has any other leads.

Tell your wife to join a mothers group in fb and ask.
    Try Target, H&m ?

The idea is if I give the recommendations, I recommend what's cheap :P Thankfully she isn't into social media.

      • BigW/Kmart, just buy some clothes that are a little too big and stretchy as burtie suggested below.
Get her to try them on first.

I have been through this too with my wife.
Topshop sell some stuff through the Iconic (but not in store).
H&M has a fairly limited range, but works if you like the styles.
Uniqlo has a small range but quite good.
ASOS is by far the best we have been able to find. Being online its quite hard to know if the clothes will fit well with your bump. My wife just orders two sizes and keeps the one that fits best.

  • We found target, Kmart and big w to all be cheap and have a good range as well

    • The trouble is they don't really cater to < size 8 in maternity, often we can't find anything < size 12.

  • You can get tummy covers that are like stretchy thick belts you wear under your clothes. Then you can wear normal tshirts and not worry about exposing the bottom of your belly. For pants if they are a soft material, designed to hang low and have a stretchy waistband they will work. Or buy some dresses that are too big, and wear a soft belt above the bump to give a semblance of a waist. If you want real maternity wear you're probably going to have to go to a specialist maternity shop and it won't be cheap. You won't find cheap stuff in her size in target, kmart etc.

I was pretty much the same size pre pregnancy and had the same problem. I ended up just buying a few pairs of plain, stretchy, black leggings from Target that were a few sizes too big so they fit around my belly. They were only about $8 a pair and I just wore them with longish, loose fitting tops (and when you're short, it's no problem finding tops that are long!). I also found a few stretchy dresses at Cotton on that I wore lots right at the end of my pregnancy. I didn't really buy anything at all that was maternity specific.

  • Grab one of those cheap flights to Manilla and shop 'til you drop.

  • Hey OP just came across your post and just wanted to congratulate you and your wife, I'm guessing that this is your first child :).

I'm not a parent but I love kids, though I certainly wouldn't want 100 lol, divorce would also be imminent 😂.
If I had the choice of any career, I'd want to work with kids, any age really but just kids.

Anyways OP I just wanted to congratulate you and your wife :).

  • Is there a possibility to see about getting a few hand made to suit all stages of pregnancy, that being 1 - 3 months big, 3-6 mths big and final 3 months as you get to each particular stage (Your wife may not show or get as big as some even being small ) many Church and charity groups have retired seamstress' and don't charge a fortune.

Being custom made you get to choose colours patterns and fabric to suit your own tastes Maybe cheaper in the long run?

Oh and congratulations on at some future date becoming a parent
