Home Theatre System < $1000

Hi All,

I'm looking at a home theatre system on what I would consider a 'budget'. Anything under $1000.

Currently looking at either 5.1 or 7.1 ch systems. The system will be connected to a Hisense 75" purchased last year and in a somewhat open living room.

I've found a few Onkyo theatre systems such as the below:

I've had a look at the reviews online and Onkyo seem a good entry-level system but would love reccomendations/setups on other systems.

Hmm, that Onkyo setup is really interesting. I have been contemplating the Sonos Playbar but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

It has 9 speakers and sounds absolutely fantastic in stores but just not sure it's worth the money. No subwoofer (additional $999!) although they suggest it's not required and has sufficient bass for any living room built in.

  Interesting, I was looking at sound bars. Just havent been able to grasp a good comparison of soundbars vs conventional (multiple) speakers + sub. I'll have to check it out in stores for sure

  I think you're right. Weird that the Catch description talks about the features of the TX-SR313 receiver which doesn't appear to be part of the product.

Years ago Onkyo were renowned for making some of the best HTIB, they probably are still pretty decent. You probably want to look at something more like this.

Is $1000 your budget for speakers and receiver ?

Its not a lot for all components but you could get either:

and get the onkyo speakers you noted :

The Yamaha speakers and Sony receiver should cost under $1200 and can be cheaper depending on what cashrewards or similar cashback etc you choose to use.

  Yes, initially that was the budget for speaker + receiver. However I may opt to stretch this. Going to take a look a the threads now, thanks for that!

    Never had an issue with my version, a couple of years older. Good solid starting amp. They have a good DAC as well.

Forgot 7 and 5.1 for this type of money. Get a better 2.1 system and you'll reap more benefit from better quality components than what the satellite speakers would deliver.
