Where to Buy Jewellery for My Wife

Hi Ozbargain community,
The missus has a milestone birthday coming up, and has been hinting at a diamond station necklace. We're talking about around a $500-$1000 purchase.

I have never bought much from high street jewelers before, as I see them as a rip off. I have bought stuff from Blue Nile which has been a good experience, but i think they're better for rings.

Where do you buy your diamond jewelery from? Is buying from the US and getting it shipped a good strategy, and if so, do you have any suggestions about which sites?

Thanks!

Go for moissanite, she'll never know the difference.

My wife lost the stone out of her engagement ring a few years ago.

We both decided to replace with a moissanite engagement ring from https://www.moissaniteco.com/ (there's probably local retailers now).

    Looks fantastic.

She had to get the ring resized and the jeweller we took it to had no idea it was an artificial diamond.

    • Interesting! Thanks for that link. It looks amazing.

Don't bother with buying jewellery. Grab a machete and hammer, hop over to any jewellery store in Victoria and give yourself 60 seconds to smash and grab whatever you like.

Now, you're thinking of buying jewellery because you won't get a criminal record?
Don't worry, here in Victoria any such offence in a jewellery store won't get you a criminal record either. Plus you won't have to give anything back.

    Money for jam.

Unfortunately given your budget, you won't be able to purchase much of a necklace, here or in the US, especially if you are after sparkling VS clarity quality diamonds, with good colour (say E or F). In my opinion, you are better off going for a solid gold 9ct necklace. Maybe buy the diamond necklace when you have a bigger budget.

    • You're right. I actually now have consulted my notes, and i can see that i was told the budget should be around $1300-1500 give or take ("I was told" lol). Not sure if that will make enough difference though….

  • Lol @ asking for "Jewellery for My Wife" tips from Ozb :)

    • I know, its kind of ridiculous! But there are actually some very expensive things discussed on Ozb, if you can get past the first page of Xaiomi pens, and 1/2 price frozen pizzas, haha.

  • See Ian Bellingen. NSW
Award winning Jeweller good pricing real opals not doublets or triplets

    Does diamonds as well

  • My old manager worked at one of the very expensive 'luxury' jewellery stores and he recommended https://salera.com.au for best value for quality. They have quite a range of diamond necklaces within your price range :)

  • Go to to a Vietnamese jewellery store and get a small thin 18/24 carat gold necklace for her. Its keeps it value better than what you get from those big stores in Westfield shopping centre or City. You can also go back and upgrade when you have extra money to spend. They will only charge you labour and differences in gold prices.

  • Try Bluenile e store. They have really good stuff. And the prices are quite good too.

  • I tryed BlueNile once. It is really good shop. A lot of different jewellery for different prices
