When we're having normal conversations in the room, this Sony speaker often has "false" positives. We're not even saying "Ok, Google" to it. Not sure if I have a faulty unit.

    • I'd say thats all Google Home products, my mini in the lounge does this a lot. The main home does it a bit less often but we spend less time in the room.

    • Echo do that as well, issue with the software

I had a similar issue with my google home mini. Constant false activations, usually from the TV. I fixed it by retraining the hotword detection in the Home App and really enunciating O-kay Goo-Gl!
Cut down false activations a lot!

I would not recommend this, due to the dumb gesture control. Works about 50% of the time and is painful. I wished they had just put button on the bloody thing.
Sound is better than the Google Home, but the Home is easier to control.

  • does anyone know how the sound in one of these compares to the Bose sound link mini II? love the mini but wish it had GA.

The Bose Sound Link leaves smart speakers for dead in the sound IMHO. I'm not a huge Bose fan at all, but their small compact speakers and headphones are of high quality.

      • yeah, it's good. Looks like I'll hold out for a Bose speaker with google assistant support. Thanks for there feedback

    • You can set Google Home up with a bluetooth speaker as default now. I think they released an update a few weeks back.
That one update makes the Google Home mini even better value that it was.

The one catch is you can't add the bluetooth speaker to a Home Group. I wanted to add my soundbar to my homegroup so for multi-room playback but you can only add other google homes or chromecast audio.

      • Thanks for the feedback. I do actually have this setup in the bedroom. The problem is I take the nose soundlink mini to work every day for my office. When I get back I need to use the google home app to pair the GH and Bose Bluetooth and it’s a hassle. First world problem, right

  • We have one of these and it sounds reasonable. Good enough for casual music.
The gesture controls are a little flakey, but the kids like them. And you can voice control the volume etc.

We got ours from eBay as a factory refurbished for about $130 from the USA.

    • It says wireless, but I can't see anywhere that it has a battery. Can you confirm if it's actually wireless?

      • +1

Not cordless, wireless, as in connects to your WiFi, but still plugs into power cables

        • +1

thanks. Bit misleading, or maybe im a bit dumb

        • @Bellpop:
Yes, it has a big, 15v 2.5A power supply.

        • @mskeggs: Ew, thanks for the heads up!
