More details on Nintendo Switch's paid online have been revealed:

    I've been a bit out of the loop. So now I'm going to have to pay for membership to play online? I pick up the console maybe once a month or two to play some Mario Kart Online, kinda annoyed that I'm going to have to pay $55 a year for the privilege.

          Especially compared to $80 per year for Playstation plus or Xbox Live per person.

          When paid online was announced everyone was outraged, especially since Nintendo was the only major game company to not charge for online, but then the cost was announced and everyone was surprised it's a third of what the competitors charge.

          Then they delayed paid online from the start of this year to the end of it, so it's a year and a half after launching the console until online is even paid for.

          Also, make sure to buy your Switch online in the form of cards from places such as EB Games or JB Hifi so you can buy them using discounted egift cards. Here's a list

          @BradleyDS2: it's a lot cheaper sure but there's a massive difference in value of the games you receive. These are 30 year old ROMs. I'll be buying it but let's not compare apples with oranges.

          @Where's_That_Cake: Oh, I completely agree, and wasn't trying to state otherwise.

          What I meant is the price difference to play online is large, I didn't mean for the games included.

          Although, I am interested in seeing what the online features that have been added to each game will be.

          The best games on Nintendo consoles are usually their first party games that sell really well as they're one of the main reasons people buy Nintendo consoles, so I can understand from a business perspective why they aren't giving recent games with the paid online, heck, I even bought a Wii U after buying a Switch just because I wanted the HD Zelda remakes (which technically weren't completely first party, but contracted third party remakes of first party games, but still).

          I buy Nintendo because their games retain their original value to me forever, and I like the innovation Nintendo does. With this, they've combined retro games that everyone likes with technology that didn't exist back then, to me this is what Nintendo stands for, but I also understand the other view that people are paying for old games they might not want for a gimmick.

          Anyway, I'm going to cut myself off here so I don't ramble forever, if you read all of this, thanks!

      Sounds like they'll only add games to the selection not take them away (should have no reason to remove first party games).

      Play a growing library of classic NES games anytime, anywhere – with added online features!

      But yeah, can access them as long as you have membership.

      Every article in the media has indicated there will be a revolving list of about 20-30 games which can be played while they are available but once they remove a game from the list you can’t play it anymore. You don’t own them you get the right to play them.
