Magic The Gathering: 2017 Commander Anthology Deck $169 (Was $250) + $10 Postage @ Gameology

130

Looks like the cheapest price in Australia by quite a bit. Some canny investor will buy out their whole stock to resell on ebay soon enough.

We need more Magic the Gathering bargains on Ozbargain!

Also it's always a good idea to buy Commander products for Magic, historically the prices go up and up. You could buy this for 170 and this could be like $300 in a acouple years time.

    • This stuff is hugely overpriced in australia, you are paying the australian tax of close to 30% vs usa prices, chances are very slim you will make a profit on this unless you can get wholesale price.

      • That's nearly always the case with mtg, but this seems to be a legit deal, it's 169 usd on star city games and 250 aud on eBay. If it's not just clearance I'd think gameology used the us msrp by mistake.

    • i purchased Battle For Zendika Fat packs fro $34 and 38 each from milsims and gamesempire :) ordered around 20 packs

Then the hype kicked in and the prices rocketed up to $90 per fat pack.. and i sold the land packs alone in each fat pack for $40 each on ebay.. so i made all my money back but got FREE boosters in each fat pack

i didnt post the deals here because of limited stock.. :) thats magic the gathering for you in Australia.. limited stock always… i started playing in in 1994 at the very start so i know something about it…

Gave away MY rare stuff away for free in 1997 before i knew they worth worth anything. Consoles took away all my time from magic

  • Newbie qn, are these ready to play decks?

    • Yes and you can basically treat it as a board game

      • ready to,play is tempting for my son …..the idea of buying random card packs and hoping for the right cards gives me flash backs to money spent on pokémon packs …..

so,it’s ready to go deck building like netrunner or those other games ?

        • no, it's 4 predesigned decks so it's not the same as having a "card pool" and building your own decks

each of these 4 decks will have a theme and while you can move the cards around i am not sure how many "colours" are shared between the decks. the colours are similar to the restrictions of netrunner where you can only choose cards that are in the same "organisation" in netrunner

        • I was in the same boat and ended up going with star realms. My five year old son and I love playing it now.

These are ready to play decks, but they're not really designed as entry level ones. You'll be exposed to a lot of the rules at the same time…which is not a bad thing, but expect a challenge!

If i was getting into magic myself id ask a friend who has played before, or pop into your local game store and they'll be happy to explain the rules (look for a venue that hosts an event called "Friday night magic", but pop in on a Saturday)

Remember, teach your kids to play magic, and they'll never have enough money for drugs!

  • A while ago they had this on eBay for $169 when a 10% code was around. It was around that price for a while, but it has since been raised to $300 on their eBay store.

Pretty good price for some solid commander decks (and those life counters are the best!) but I probably wouldn't invest in it. IIRC it had a pretty big print run.

  • ah good times with MTG. Just remembered it a few years back going on special at Big W for atleast 5bucks each for a starter deck.

I remember hearing a quote from somebody that went something like this: 'Every day playing Magic: The Gathering, is a day further away from losing your virginity'.

will pass on those word to my friends who have daughters, their fathers were asking about options as their daughters hit that age.

      • Effect only applies to male characters in my experience.

    • This comment just activated my trap card.

  • These are going out the door pretty fast.

  • They also have the 5 Shadows Over Innistrad Intro Decks for ~$43 which is another great way to get new players into MtG.

  • Bought 7, thanks.

  • Order cancelled. 😢

  • Mine arrived today. 😅

    • @McFly, did you order just one?
