    if you have cable for NBN, you need to use the cable modem they supply and can add your own wireless router.
    If you have fibre, use their modem and add your own router.

    If you have copper you have options, but best to use their modem and add your own router.

    NBN comes in 3 flavours, 2 don't taste good.

    Using other then NBN supplied modem leads to problems if you need something fixed or checked, if you use their modem, they make sure it works to that point, use your own router and then wireless issues at home are you only problem.

    If you're on FTTN the VR900 will be best bang for buck.
