  • seems like they're getting rid of stock to replace it with the sandy bridge models!

  • Seems like a good price, but I reckon many stores will drop in price soon because of sandybridge.

  • Please correct me If I'm wrong, I recall centrecom has this model with Full HD and 8 GB for 13xx or 14xx

No blue ray? Only 4 GB RAM .STILL good price.

Graphics card is crap .. have a look at the performance specs here.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Geforce-GT-425M.34152.0.… .Missing blue ray and upgrade of Ram would have made it tempting. but ill pass.

As COTD have become a bit famous they don't bring out an awesome deal, if it does it's very very limited quantity and a very slow website to add to it.

I agree COTD is nothing special but this laptop is pretty sweet at this price point. Graphics card is decent for a laptop, what are you talking about? Complement that with a high powered cpu, 64 bit windows 7, 4gb of ram, usb 3/hdmi/esata put together by a decent manufacturer, I can't really see how anyone can justify giving this a neg, unless you really dislike COTD or you're expecting something like this to be 500 dollars? It's unrealistic to be asking for blu-ray, More ram and the top of the line graphics card (for a notebook) at this price. Have you seen the prices of brands like alienware who specialise in gaming laptops/pcs?

      • Trust me, if they were even for 700 dollars. it would have been an epic sale again like PS3 ;)

    • gfx card isn't "crap" but it's not as good as an older ati 5650/57xx or even a previous generation 4650! it is decent enough though

but yeah deal isn't that great considering no bluray.. only good thing going for this laptop is the cpu.. which is a battery killer mind u

I hate that laptops are 1377X768 these days. 64bit and only 4GB of RAM. Can see why CoTD got these run of the line models, they didn't sell.

I guess if in the market, and the saving is nothing to complain about.

    • +3

yea. I think Extra RAM and blue ray is a expensive thing. But buying a laptop above 1000 bucks for this resolution is a crime. I think, its better to wait for some time for Sandy Bridge. They look outstanding.
      Its worth a wait.

      • +1

Even though the new laptops may have Sandy Bridge, in terms of gaming you are still GPU limited.

You could slap on a uber fast SB i7 on this laptop, but there's no denying the fact that the GT425 is going to be a bottleneck.

It's a $400 saving off retail price so it's a decent bargain, though I do feel the specifications of the laptop could be better.

        • I dont think, we will need seperate dedicated GPU's in sandy bridge

          http://www.intel.com/technology/graphics/intelhd.htm

        • We're no where near the point where an integrated GPU on the CPU die can compete with discrete GPU's.

A GPU has hundreds of cores running in parallel. A CPU only has a few, 2 to 4 cores. And then there's memory bandwidth limitations.

Haven't you read the Sandy Bridge reviews and benchmarks?

The RAM is OK, for 98% of people, it's plenty. But the resolution is unforgivable.

    • Agreed. Screen res is not that great.

    • This is true, but even a 32bit version of Windows can address ~4GB of RAM. Usually the move to 64Bit was to address 4GB+ of RAM, as well as take full advantage of a 64bit CPU.

      • +1

If the hard limit for the laptop was 4GB, I could understand (in much the same way that netbooks, limited to 2GB, usually ship with 32-bit). But if the hardware supports more than 4GB, and these do, then I'd be glad that 64-bit Windows is there. If I choose to update to 8GB later, I don't need to reinstall the OS.

OS choice should be based on the RAM limitations, not the RAM actually installed at sale time.

        • True, but you can get a 8GB of RAM computer with better display resolution for the price it would cost you to upgrade from 4GB -> 8GB RAM. But still be stuck with limiting resolution :)

Pay less now, cost more later.

  • +1

But again said about sandy bridge. If you cannot wait and want to have a decent laptop. I still hate COTD, but this is a decent laptop to buy.

  • +2

I'd rather pay the extra $400 and get this:
    http://penta.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&product…

    8GB RAM
    15.6" (1920x1080 Resolution)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 with 1024 MB dedicated Graphics

    Cheap laptop none the less…

    • +1

      and still no bluray? lol

i wouldn't touch HP with a ten foot barge pole! fucking fail pieces of shit.

  • Thanks Just bought it!
Hope it will live up to its specs.

  • Dont forget the -$5 for spamming friends awesome.

  • I just got a i7 2600 desktop(custom built), i use to have a i7 860. at the same price point it is noticeably faster. ( on paper its around 25% to 40%)so i highly recommend everyone to wait.

  • Deal is still there. Guys common. COTD will be highly disappointed. \

    • +1

      screw them.

  • +2

Can someone please illuminate me on why people is complaining so much about the resolution… on a 15" screen? I'd understand if you'd wanted some 1900x1200+ in a huge full HD screen, but on a laptop's screen? 1280 is ok, 1366 is more than enough.

    • Lol, welcome to my world! Don't bother, I've tried this line of reasoning before with a few of these guys…evidently, it's all about "screen real estate"…on a 15" screen…lulz! ;)

  • COTD is the devil

  • ps this deal is back on during today's catchathon
