Sony ZX770 BT NC Headphones $168 @ Harvey Norman

110

Been hanging out for another Sony/Bose top of the range noise cancelling cans, as I'm heading overseas soon, but ended up getting these instead.

Good mid-priced cans from a few reviews I've read.

Says Clearance on HN's website, but in-store there was no 'SALE/CLEARANCE' tickets and RRP was $296 on the back of the box, but scanned in at $168 at the register.

Did a quick check of stock using capital city postcodes for the C&C option and most states appear to still have stock, except QLD or at least around the Brisvegas area.

There were 2 left at my local HN at Nunawading VIC.

They also had the Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC Headphones on sale for $235, but in-store only (at least at HN Nunawading), as it still shows $328 online.

Haha thanks. There must be a few Sp*rs fans negging your comment.

  • It's been far cheaper before. (I haven't negged you for that)

Also, I own a pair of these. The NC is a bit 'meh'

  • I would not recommend sennheisers 4.x series.

    • What's bad about them?

I had QC25, SoundLink on ear, and wanted to save some money so bought 4.40 for $190 at JB. Initially I thought they were amazing, and I was incredibly happy. 3 hours later I was getting a headache from the top band having no padding at all and it digging into my head with moderate pressure. Then there's the controls, no way to tell if it's on or not quickly, the best way is to press and hold the power button. 4 seconds turns it off, 5 seconds turns it on. If you get a call and want to take it using the phone, you have to wait 4 seconds to just turn the headphones off. The ear cushions are huge, yet they don't isolate sound very well at all. The headphones are very large compared to qc35 when on your head. The headband has the Sennheiser clamp, which means it's very strongly pushing your head in with the cushions. Aptx make no sound quality difference on or off.

Worst of all, at low volumes there is a loud hiss. When turning up or down the volume, the music volume lowers briefly and plays a loud beep so very hard to gauge volume. A voice says device on/device off at the volume you had it last, so if you had it loud and turned it off, the next time you turn it on it will blast "device on" in your ears.

On the positive, the battery lasts ages and it sounds decent.

I wouldn't pay money for these since there are much better headphones for the same price.

        • as heavy BT Headphone user.

Sennheisers BT 4.x is not too bad.

ear cushion is not huge, every one in most of the reviews complain about the cushions are tooooo small. not comfee at all. but sound isolation is ok.

having 4.5 in my ear right now. top band had tiny padding. not too bad unless not having both arms long enough.

control is confusing but can get used to it if you use that a lot. many way to know the headphone on/off.

I don't know other phone, for Iphone. when you having BT Head phone and you want to take call from your phone, simply press answer in your phone and switch to Phone, it will change to your mobile speaker.

for me, turn on the headphone then put it on . so the higher volume can make your hear the on/off/connection clearly without putting on your head.

QC35 is very good headphone. obviously, BT4.x is not the same level compare to QC35 from technical and money wise.

@samedream: I also had Bose Soundlink On ear where are the same price as 4.50, but are still far more comfortable and usable.

Workaround are fine for certain things, but sometimes I would like to just turn it off, rather than pressing and holding a button while looking at the light to see if it's off or listening to see if it says "power off". Same goes for turning it on, having to either put it on, look for a light or hear the loud "power on" - "Connected" come out of the device while holding them.

The problem is that you have to work around these headphones. I had to buy a foam cushion to put on the top to wear it for more than a few hours. I have had to change the way I use headphones entirely, while loosing out many conveniences.

The ear cushion is huge in that it is 2.3-3 cm thick. Most of the complaints are that the gap to fit your ear isn't big enough, which it isn't.

pause/skip/volume yes you get used to it, but I often still reach back and find my finger on the wrong button and have to feel my way around it to find what I want. This is after 3 months of daily use.

Can you please let me know of the many ways you can know the headphones are on please? I often have my phone in my pocket, and when I put my headphones on, I can't remember if I turned them off or not, the fact they are on my head how can I tell if they are on? With all my previous headphones I just felt the switch and could tell instantly, or if it comes to it I switch it on and off in a second anyway. Often with the Sennheiser I will press buttons and nothing happens, so I assume it's off, then I press and hold the button for 4 seconds and nothing happens, then I press and hold it for 5 seconds and it turns on. - Compare this to grabbing headphones, switching them on while putting them on my head.

All in all though, I can't get around the hissing at low volumes. And isolation is worse than say Plantraonics back beat pro without NC on, Bose SoundLink On ear and Around Ear as examples. I know they are more expensive, but not by much at all. Also the fact you need their proprietary connection for wired cable. Bose used standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm while sennheiser has a stupid lock mechanism which blocks standard cables.
