    • Same here

      • $27.30 Melbourne

        Also not called Port anymore.

        • Also not called Port anymore.

          Lots of people still call it Port…

        • @jv:

          Lots of people still call it Port…

          Lot of people are wrong then; this is a tawny, and not a bad one for that price!

          @ripsnorter:

          Lot of people are wrong then

          Not really…

        • @jv:
          Yes, really. This is a tawny. No need to argue a 100% correct fact.

          @ripsnorter:

          I buy tawny port from Woolies…

          This is one of my favourites…

          Brown Brothers Port

        • @ripsnorter:

          On special occasions though, I open a bottle of Grandfather Port

          (100% correct fact.) lol…

        • @jv:

          There is no such thing as "tawny port".

        • -1

          @ripsnorter:

          There is at Woolthworths…

        • @jv:

          I hope you don't buy your Grandfather tawny from Woolworths when it is much cheaper at Dan's (and correctly titled).

        • @ripsnorter:

          If you prefer Coles, you can buy it there too… :)

          https://www.liquorland.com.au/Red%20Wine/stanley-tawny-port-…

        • @jv:

          There is at Woolthworths…

          No, there is not. Everything you have linked is tawny. Misdecriptions on the Woolworths websites do not favour you dumb, childish, trolling argument. This is Australian tawny, not Portuguese port.

        • @jv:

          What do these actually say on the bottle/product? Tawny or port?

          I'm sure you are 100% aware that it is illegal for Australian producers to label their products as port.

          Website errors do not favour your dumb argument.

        • -1

          @ripsnorter:

          No, there is not.

          Maybe if you can't read you can believe that, but it says Tawny Port in the link.

          If you want to read up a bit on Tawny Port, here is a link…

          https://www.vintagecellars.com.au/Grapevine/wine/port-and-ta…

          Personally, I prefer Tawny Port to Vintage Port

          Although sometimes I don't mind a good Great Western Champagne, whilst snacking on Australian Fetta cheese

        • @jv:

          Maybe if you can't read you can believe that, but it says Tawny Port in the link.

          Maybe you can't read? Maybe I should embolden the text for you, seeing as you can't read the photos you've linked to.

          Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny Hmmm, the product is called tawny as required by law. 100% fact.

          Brown Brothers Australian tawny Hmmm, the product is called tawny as required by law. 100% fact.

          Stop arguing the point.

          @ripsnorter:

          I just buy them from Woolies, not from the places you mentioned.

          I prefer to buy Port.

          Also, pretty much ALL of South Australia disagrees with you…

        • @jv:

          I prefer to buy Port.

          Oh, so you prefer Portuguese Port to Australian tawny then?

        • @ripsnorter:

          I you really prefer Vintage Port, try this one at 1st Choice…

        • -1

          @ripsnorter:

          you prefer Portuguese Port

          Nope, I prefer to support our local Port industry and keep the jobs here…

        • @jv:

          Lol, you're only proving my argument. Wow, port from Portugal, what a surprise. Only what I've been saying this whole time.

        • @ripsnorter:

          port from Portugal, what a surprise

          Have you tried Port from Chile?? Yum !!!!!!!!!!

        • @jv:
          There is no such thing as an Australian port industry; that is an oxymoron. Australia produces tawny. Stop repeating the same incorrect statements over and over again.

        • -1

          @ripsnorter:

          There is no such thing as an Australian port industry

          You keep believing that… It leaves more for the rest of us and keeps the prices down…

        • -1

          @ripsnorter:

          Stop repeating the same incorrect statements

          I'd rather believe Woolies, Coles, 1st Choice rather than a random internet person.

        • @jv:

          Have you tried Port from Chile?

          No, I haven't. What does that have to do with anything? You linked to a port from Portugal.

          You still don't seem to be able to accept that you are wrong and that it is 100% factually correct that Australian producers must label their products as tawny. Keep digging your stupid hole.

        • @jv:

          You linked to a port from Portugal.

          Jim's Cellars also sell Australian Tawny Port

          http://www.jimscellars.com.au/_product/view-product/brown-br…

        • @jv:

          I'd rather believe Woolies, Coles, 1st Choice

          You'd rather believe textual misdesriptions on a website than the actual label on a bottle or the photos of such bottles on those exact same websites? That seems pretty foolish, or more like you are just trying to grab whatever scraps of your stupid argument you can to favour your bullheaded argument.

        • -1

          @ripsnorter:

          I'm pretty sure these stores know what they are selling a bit more than you, lol…

        • @jv:

          I am pretty sure I can read the picture on a label and understand the law and know you are 100% wrong.

        • -1

          @ripsnorter:

          That's fine… Keep believing that… I won't lose sleep… lol

        • @jv:

          I will keep believing that because I am correct and am not trying to troll you. I fear for you if you are drinking so much tawny that you can't read the label on the bottle…lol

    comes up $39 for me?

  • +2

    Just rang the 1300 hot line and have been told to expect no consistency between stores.
    The only around $20 price I found close to me was Two Rocks WA but they have no stock.
    I found a few $27's and all the way up to $40.
    I can't be bothered in such inconsistency so will stick with Dan Murphys etc.

    • ok ….so we need receipt and hit dans with price match …… house has no heating so port and cheese will make winter bearable …. if i can get good port at right price.

    $15.60 at doncaster east store. Just ordered thanks OP
    8 available

    • +1

      Thanks to you & the OP, got DM to price match. Cheers.

  • 10yr age.

    Is that when it was bottled ?

    • How long in the barrel normally

      • -1

        It's a tawny, it comes from different barrels.

    • 10yr is the minimum age of the barrels selected to be used

      • minimum age of the barrels

        What about the wine in them?

        The barrels are sometimes reused…

        • Dunno, it just says oak barrels. Not sure what used to be in them before being used for Port.

        • Seppeltsfield Para Grand Tawny is a classic blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mouvèdre. This fortified is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 10 years and this has produced a wine of intense complexity and flavour.

        • … when i say barrels, I mean the liquid inside the barrels, not the age of the wood.

  • $23.40 at a couple of stores in south Canberra. I ordered two

  • 39 for me

    • you win.

  • $15.60 Caringbah NSW if this helps anyone. I ordered one bottle, looks like there are 7 left.
    $39 at Burraneer and Cronulla.

  • Update - I am trying to upload a copy of my receipt so you can take it to show for price matching…

  • I bought some of this from the actual winery together with one of their mini dispensing wooden barrels. Great stuff and great price!

    • Yes, I consider this to be the gold standard of your basic tier Port across the common retail brands.

    • I was there in SA a few weeks back and was tempted to get it but I ended up getting the DP63 Grand Muscat and the Charmingly Caramel instead.

      The Para's over there were quite pricey.

      The mini dispensing wooden barrels were quite cute but at $250 a pop for one of the smaller ones and the recommendation to keep it half filled at the least turned me off as I do not drink THAT much to justify it (and to be able to constantly keep on purchasing the same style of drink to maintain the minimum recommended levels.

      • You can buy cheaper barrels (but at the expense of less flavour)… or, if you did buy their mini barrel, you can refill it with any branded Port you desire.

        There's quite a few places in SA that sell bulk Port, sometimes at $5 a litre. Then you just age it yourself at home.

        • Where please I’m in SA

        • @strikerzebra: Seppeltsfield, Grant burge, rutherglen, tinlin… There's one somewhere in seaview/seacliff that also sell juices.

          Probably more I've missed

      • Seppeltsfield themselves sell bulk port that you can fill the barrel with, and you can also mix it with other varieties.

        It was an indulgent purchase but it looks great in the bar.

  • ok have bought 4 from doncaster ….. now to hit dans for price match on some extras …..

    • … and then, hold a garage sale?

      • no, means i have presents sorted for the rest of the year ……people will assume i paid full price i hope ….. nothing like being a dinner guest and asking the host to open a bottle you brought for them as a present …. now to get a deal on cheese …. probabaly won’t keep aswell though ….

        • Hehe good one… I got 3x for a friend who will be giving them away this weekend for exactly those reasons.

          … depends how green you like your cheese :D

  • $39 for me… fml

  • Was anyone successful in getting uncle Dan's to match / beat?
