  • presumably only perth right

    • Perth has the most comprehensive coverage, but Vivid is also available in Melbourne and Sydney CBD after a recent installation by Vivid.

Why do people find it so hard to put the dollar sign in front of the number? If you want to describe Australian currency please respect the symbols and position.

    • A lot of times it's posting from overseas, who might have convention of putting dollar sign behind the numbers. Also Australia is pretty multi-culture — we have people from all over the world living on this land.

  • 30 day expiry. coverage map indicates basically metro only. Seems to be lots of black spots.

Boradband - is that the sort of Internet that Borat would use in Kazakhstan!?

When its says CBD it really means CBD!

    • I know eh… only covers a fairly small area.

  • would i be able to use this device with any other service providers? or does it use very specific frequencies?

    • Just vivid, its WiMAX and currently only compatible with vivids WiMAX standard.

WiMAX can be thought of as a 4th gen tech, and its not backwards compatible.

      • thanks. yeah i read up about it. 6-7Mb/s sounds a bit slow for wimax.
        isn't NextG around 21Mb/s?

        • Not sure that wimax is all its hyped up to be. Will be interesting to see LTE and how it performs when its out, especially as the large telcos are investing and testing LTE.

NextG is 21 or 24 Mb/s if you have the fast supported modem.

  • 4G, as in 4th generation cellular "mobile" technology?

Or just a marketing ploy to piggyback on the current popularity of 3G truly mobile broadband, which you can use "while" moving on, e.g., a train/car/bus?

Keep in mind guys Vivid restrict P2P so when they say 'truly unlimited' it's not.

  • Wimax standard is not ideal for situations like on a train car etc. as the technology does not support handover. LTE on the other hand supports this and Vivid are trialling LTE in Sydney currently.

  • I use the Vivifi and although not in CBD, I am in the metropolitan area of Perth, … love it, don't have a problem with speed or service

  • Is there a coverage map?
