PULL5

Was looking for a 4G ISP and found these guys.

They use the Optus network and the speeds have been much better compared to ADSL 2+.

The price of the modem includes internet for the second month. You can get the third month free by using one of the referral codes below.

I have just hooked it up and it took 5 minutes and has been great.

    isn't this only 12/1?

    • +5

      Up to 12/1.

    • Yes, it is the same as the Optus MBB speeds as they are on the same network, but it is unlimited.

      • ahhhhh, I read it as better than NBN lol

        • In most cases, probably is.

          Effin NBN.

        • +4

This is mainly a last-ditch option for people who have really no choice but to go with wireless ISP's due to lack of NBN or ADSL2 service.

Which sadly, still applies to a large number of aussies thanks to our 3rd rate internet infrastructure.

@scrimshaw: I had ADSL2 service. But my speeds dropped from a bleeding fast 3 Mbps to 1 Mbps. I'm on Vivid now, and I've been getting about 9 Mbps, and I've never been happier. Anyone with better speeds, please keep them to yourself. Ignorance is bliss.

@scrimshaw: when you pay good money to an internet service provider and Telstra for the luxury of keeping a phone line, and get horrible speeds and dog turd service. You really have no choice but to pony up the money and go wireless.

        • +2

@scrimshaw: You're descibing me. I live in a new development that broke the copper. Telstra say NBN coming soon so wont fix, but still no NBN yet…

We've had Vivid since xmas. It is… better than no internet. My mobile is also on Optus. Sometimes vivid will die for a couple of days although my mobile won't be affected.

Vivid is also very slow (peak download is 1000kb/s, although typically we get around 400-600kb's peak). Ping isn't too bad, I can usually play Fortnite ok, but normally I'll use my phone as a hotspot since vivid ping is temperamental. We watch Stand and Netflix with little issue although occasionally in evening it'll swap to SD for a couple of minutes.

          We're in Hillcrest QLD, 4118.

I've been with Vividwireless for a full one year now. The speed of it isn't that great, but the stability of the connection is what I am after for. There were only two instances where I have a connection drop for around 20 minutes in total throughout the whole year. Comparing this 20 minutes connection drop only to what I've experienced with Belong internet, I'm very happy with the product.

PS: I was with Belong for 1 year and 2 months, and I do not have connection for 4 to 5 months due to fault at their end.

    • Have been using this service in Darlinghurst for the past 3 years. Very happy without except with the idiot indian call centre. Using a VPN for my torrents so no issues there. Didn't work so well with netflix at peak time but that's what you get

    • Yes I've been using it working at home for a couple of months and it's been rock solid so I was quite impressed

  • Not sure how to include the OzBargain referral links for Vivid.

    Mods, any help?

    • The deal is for the Vivid modem sold by The Good Guys on eBay, not for an internet service from Vivid Wireless so the store should be The Good Guys (as it is). The referral links will only show in Vivid Wireless deals.

Also, we're not Batman :) To get our attention, you need to use the report link. Another user reported your comment to get our attention in this case. Thanks.

      • Of course, makes sense. But then as a workaround, users should be allowed to post links in the comments in catch-22 deals like this one where the auto linker wont show because the store is different. Otherwise ozbargainers need to search for old vivid deals to dig up referral codes…

  • I purchase the modem a week ago and has to cancel the same day. The Speed shows up to 10 MBPS and good SNIR ratio. However, playing Netflix or other online video suffer quality issue. Netflix switch to SD mode and Amazon video shows message about bandwidth.

It is great if you do not have the other fixed line options but no match on the bandwidth issue. As scrimshaw says, it is mainly a last ditch option if no NBN or ADSL2 is available.

I'm using the modem with a optus 100gb plan from the iPad 12.9" pro 512gb deal for $80.

    Works well.

I bought the modem for $35 from TGG using a 30% off networking Promo, combined with pay 20% for click and collect using a $20 TGG survey voucher and the remaining balance in-store using multiple $20 TGG survey vouchers

To be honest you better off getting the telstra 40gb data with unlimited data capped at 1.5Mbps as its enough for 720p Netflix. I've tried it and works well.

    • Which 4g modem you are using. 35$ is pretty cheap.

    • since when does 1.5Mbit/s get you 720p netflix??

  • +2

I bought the optus 100GB free 100GB $70 Month to month plan, and bought optus 4G Mobile broadband modem separately. Faster speed, no contract, works much better than vivid wireless if you need less than 200GB A Month. You can even limit the bandwidth to less than 20mbps if you worry about using too much data.

    • That's exactly what I am doing. I run this plan on Netgear 790s, which was released years ago. Luckily, the speed get around 15-20 Mbps, totally outweigh the ADSL speed.

    • How did you limit the bandwidth? do you meed a particular modem?

  • It's not a bad service really. I have just moved into a rental and instead of messing around with DSL as I'm about 3KM from the exchange I picked up this modem while waiting for NBN (hopefully not far off). It does help being close to a tower also.

  • They selling $150 2months ago. New user always has 2 months free.

  • -1

This seems more like an advertisement than an actual deal. Its like 5$? lower than usual price and every new user gets free time.

    • The RRP is $189, so savings of $20 or a bit more with the 5% discount.

    • +1

Well I've been monitoring the price and it's been $199 full price for a couple of months

      It was $149 before that

So in comparison to a couple of days ago it's a deal

  • Extra tip: You pay for the first period until your billing cycle starts, so push forward your billing start date to the earliest day eg. tomorrow and you will only pay a few days before your first free month starts - that way you don't pay a full $99 like I did before the 2 free months kick in

Now I just got connected to Optus cable so I have a modem available to use in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne (Nunawading, Blackburn, Box Hill) - I have ~10 months of free months so if anyone wants to buy this off me I can pass it on to you for around half price $500 (you would be the secondary user on the account until it expires and you want to take it over)

  • I purchased this today but where to do claim the 2 months free?
