Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition Irish Whiskey 700ml $52.90 @ Dan Murphy's

90

Just got an email from Dan advertising this awesome Irish whiskey at a great price. The last time I bought it at First Choice it was $55 on special.

I love this one, it's a really smooth spirit with a sweet finish on the end from the stout barrels it's aged in.

    Stout barrels?
Since when did they start storing stout in barrels again?

Sounds like marketing bushittery to me…
    Still sounds good though!

It's entirely possible that the stout used for the process isn't even making its way to beer drinkers. The same thing happens with sherry casks. Sherry used to be extremely popular so used casks were easy to come by; these days, not much sherry is drunk any more so the casks are harder to find. The answer? Make sherry, age it, then tip it down the drain. Apparently there are vineyards in Spain that do this purely for the purpose of producing used sherry casks they then on-sell to the whisky makers in Scotland. Not a cent is made on the drink itself, it's all in the casks.

        Yeah, so marketing bullshittery.

It was barely funny the first time you said it.

      • You will need to go and get fluxed also.

    • Pretty sure they were $45 at DMs early this year. Meant to get one to try. 52.90 appears to be cheapest atm…

$53 at Liquorland (closer for me), but can't use Wish gift cards…

  • I wonder if 'stout-seasoned' and 'franciscan' are the terms they settled on for authenticity… factual or otherwise.

  • Who cares about the background story. Its bloody tasty.
