Which Provider to Port into with $2 Sim That Doesn't Require Topping up? Vodafone No Longer Works

I have hoarded Optus $30 sims for $10 and usually port into Vodafone $2 sim before porting out to Optus again.

However, it appears that Vodafone has finally caught on because they are forcing a recharge before activating the sim.

What providers, besides Optus, don't force a recharge on activating their $2 sims?

Telstra free $2 sims online don't require recharge.

But would it be possible to just port from optus to optus?

    • For some reason those Telstra sims are hit and miss. I've been able to activate it once but not other times.

I'm willing to pay for it, do you think it's different if I buy it from Coles or something?

Edit: Can't port from Optus to Optus

      • I'm pretty sure the sims from Coles and other shops would be the same.

Be careful activating a tonne of sims. The providers are clamping down on it and may refuse future activations claiming fraud. See whirlpool.

    • Do you have a link to the Whirlpool thread?

Is this something recent? I've been doing it for over a year now.

the last guy to complain about that on here activated a new sim every 3 days or something stupid

I only port every month but I'm still a bit concerned. I just tried to port yesterday, it usually ports really quickly but it hasn't gone through yet

Your input would be valuable here.

  • I did it with Lyca and Amaysim

  • Have you tried doing SIM replacements?

People love to buy the $10 SIMs for $1 and use SIM replacement endlessly so that: $8 credit + SIM replacement (Optus) with $10 SIM = $18 credit for example.

I remember it added the credit for me last year when doing it but unsure if it applies bonuses.

    • How do I do that?

      • Click "SIM replacement" on the activation page. Like I said above, it did add the credit from the new SIM to my balance for me (and others) when doing this. That was last year however and it may have changed, also I was using the My Prepaid Daily offer so didn't have any bonuses. Kinda forgot about that before posting, it probably won't act like an activation and apply the bonuses so not useful in your situation.

        • Thanks I will try that next month.

    • The $10 credit on the new sim does not carry over when doing sim replacement.

      • When did you do the same replacement?

  • Update, my phone number is still "stuck" according to Optus. This is not looking good.
