Something to Stick to My Glasses So I Can Locate It via Bluetooth or GPS or Loud Sound Alarm

So I constantly lose my glasses but thankfully not my keys because they stay in my wallet which always stay right beside me but I'm one of those people that don't like to keep my glasses on my face all the time only when I need it so I need a GPS locator or just sound alarm device that can nicely attach to my glasses and can be used to make a loud sound or be located via Bluetooth or GPS when I essentially lose it or misplace it as I do fairly frequently.

It's one of those things that slightly annoy me as you can imagine I put it anywhere whereas my wallet is either beside me usually or on me.

TL;DR GPS Bluetooth locator with sound alarm to find my glasses when I eventually lose then through out the week / day

Hmm… irradiate them with plutonium. Then you can use a geiger counter to find them

*warning, may cause eye cancer, but seeing how your eyes are shit you'll have to weigh that risk up haha

    • This is actually not a bad idea but need something more sensitive and precise haha lol because I think my whole house might radioactive yeah don't ask.

It's a bad idea, trust me. I know bad ideas xD

The problem with something like glasses is that any form of tracker with current economically viable technology will be too heavy to leave permanently attached.

Best idea is to keep a clean and ordered house (this is a big part of why you want to do this, it reduces seek time for objects) but I understand. Easier said than done

Another is to have multiple pairs of glasses. The extra initial cost will be recouped if you frequently lose them. You could have 3 pairs on the shelf, then when you lose one you just grab the next. Eventually you randomly stumble on the lost pair, and add them back in rotation.

Alternatively, and this would be my choice, is to wire up every room with cheap surveillance. That way, when you lose something (any object not just glasses), you can check the video, and rewind to the last point you had them. Wouldn't even need to do every room, wiring up every second would be sufficient.

        • Great ideas unfortunately I can't do any of them for various reasons mostly mainly because I don't own this house and am sharing with some others.

$1. I've needed glasses for about 2 years now but only caved on this a few months ago. IME once you get over it the first time you wonder why you ever held back.

    • I have a lanyard but I hate hanging anything on my neck really especially around the house and just use it for outdoors even then I put it in my pocket or hang it on my shirt if I have to as a last resort.

For example now I am lying down in bed do it's in my beside makeshift table.. but I usually leave it around if I am multitasking like taking a shower or in the kitchen or cleaning the house.

Just scared I might lose it for good one of these days especially as the days get longer and sometimes more busier.

Put a string on your glasses, and when you're not wearing them, have then hang around your neck. Or, have a glasses case in your bag. Always put them in the same place. You should only have 2-3 places you ever put them. Eg on your bedside table or on the coffee table or in the glasses case in your bag. A Bluetooth tracker is going to be too big and will be uncomfortable.

    • "A Bluetooth tracker is going to be too big and will be uncomfortable."

Indeed that is the case. There are thingies that will track but they all have the following problems either one or more per product - seem to be too big, sold on a subscription basis ie you can't "buy" them and have them work for you permanently, use bluetooth not wifi, batteries die too quickly, cannot pair. Some also complain of near inaudible alarms.

A technology that so far either needs to develop further OR be designed to benefit the user rather than the maker's bottom line.

I was also keen to have this ability to track. On research I gave up the idea till the product sees substantial improvement.

Personally, when my glasses are "upgraded" I keep the older pair(s) in alternate locations where I might want to use them eg near TV. I'm always leaving the primary pair behind!

Attach your keys to your glasses.

    Something like that.

Or just put them on your shirt like everyone else.

    • I have some of those and they're way too big to attach to glasses.

+1 to just putting them on your shirt or on a string around your neck though

    • Yes I was hoping to find something like this as the need is great.. hopefully some genius will make a really small sticky maybe or loop around attachable device that fulfills my needs (GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and decent loud sound locator). I reckon the profit and market need is definitely there, just need a professional entrepreneur/engineer.

      • If there's something small enough to go on glasses it's going to cost hundreds. Tracking device is not going to happen. Unless you still have the same problem in 15 years.

Buy an extra 2 or 3 pairs of glasses. That way if you misplace one pair there will always be another around.

Or you could act like an adult and not misplace them. Of if you're old and senile you could wear a lanyard.

    Or get laser eye surgery.

    Or get contact lenses.

    • Too expensive, I could probably get another pair under centrelink vision Australia program for free but the next pair would definitely be $100-200.

      • I have the same problem so I bought some AUD$40 prescription glasses and frames on Aliexpress.
Send them a copy of your lens stats from the optometrist and they send you the full product.
Have a spare one at work, home and the car. Search Aliexpress for a frame you like or I can send you a link.

        • Easier to just get a pair of $39 glasses complete at Specsavers store. Easy to order and they do everything for you. Also saved you a dollar.

        • Oh wow today I learnt.

Yes I'd like a link for that aliexpress prescription glasses if possible please.

    wait for xiaomi smart glasses

  • Do you just need reading glasses or prescription ones? My long vision is still good but my short vision is rubbish so I just buy a stack of reading glasses from Chemist warehouse or they have really cheap ones at Daiso - I then just have them dotted around the house so there is always a pair fairly close by. I also have some good prescription glasses for going out but they stay in my bag so I always leave the house with them. If I'm wandering around I normally fold my glasses and then tuck them down my shirt/top using one arm as a support. That way they are in easy reach.

    • Prescription unfortunately. Tried some reading glasses they didn't do nothing just made it worse. So I need to keep this only pair of glasses in good condition and not lose it or leave it anywhere.

      • If they are strong enough the folding them and tucking down the shirt works well for me; either that or perching them on up on my head. I use either option when I go out and need to alternate between my sunglasses and my prescription glasses. As others have said you can get the string but I found that annoying and the string tends to get tangled when you store it.

There is something like this, but I've never used it
        https://findorbit.com/orbit_au/glasses/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIr8…

        • I have a lanyard and do all the things you mentioned already including keeping them in my bag or pockets for example when I am eating or sleeping on the train.

Just wish somebody should invent this device by now I just know if they get it right it will sell like hotcakes.

        • @AlienC: The findorbit seems to be what you want, but they are about $50 each and you would need to get them shipped to you. Looking at the site they ship out of Australia and if you buy two you don't pay for shipping. They also offered me a 10% discount as I was leaving.

        • @try2bhelpful: this sounds perfect.. right now this is my best contender.. a little bit pricey but considering how expensive my glasses are seems to be a worth investment and can use and transfer onto future glasses I presume which makes this perfect then for all my future glasses locating needs. Thanks try2behelpful your comments and posts are no lie almost some of one of all of the best.. like it's always good quality posting and usually much more better than me an try my best sometimes haha lol :) thanks dude. Thanks man.

        • @AlienC: woman, but you are welcome - I've never used these and I couldn't find a review anywhere so you might want to chat to them about a returns policy if you aren't happy with how well they work.

          This might help
          https://findorbit.com/orbit_au/return/

        • @AlienC: depending on your glasses this is going to be really annoying. Even if it doesn't touch your face you're going to see a big black blob in your peripheral vision and it is going to annoy the crap out of you.
But that being said, it sounds like you'll probably be able to return it for a refund if you don't like it, and only be out the postage cost. So could be worth trying!

        • +1

@Quantumcat: Personally I would put this on the outside of the arm - it will look at bit more odd but it will remove the peripheral vision issues and keep the bluetooth device away from the face.

    a brick

  • Something like this:

    https://www.latestbuy.com.au/bluetooth-location-tracker/

I haven’t tried it, so can’t tell you much about it. Looks like there are other similar products eg at Amazon.

  • This probably makes no sense, but it's late and I'm tired, but if you attached an rfid chip to your glasses, and had a scanner in significant places (car, lounge/ bedroom etc) you could track where your glasses were last scanned??

I'll apologise in advance and go to bed now.

  • Just have a designated spot to put them. even 3 spots in the home works.
