Harvey Norman Pricematch

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this: I want to purchase a Panasonic KX-TG4393ALT Cordless phone triple pack. It is advertised at Dicksmith for $139 and $199 at Harvey Norman.

Will Harvey Norman just pricematch, i.e. $139 or reduce the price to lower than $139 (Officeworks style)?

I've been googling this and found a topic on whirlpool from 2006 where you have to buy it from HN at their price. Then bring in the DS catalog with the lower price and then they will refund you 110% of the difference.

On the HN page it says you can bring the catalog in on the day in the terms and conditions.

I'm a bit confused, can anyone clarify this for me? Otherwise could anyone recommend another store which has a pricematch + discount?

Thanks

  • I doubt if HN will give extra 10% on DSE price but they should match DSE price.

  • +1

go to OW and it will be around $132

    • whoops! i totally forgot OW sells phones!

      • yeah.. and offies has a pretty decent 7 day return policy if the phones aren't suitable.
but don't take my word for it.

  • when I went in there(harvey) and did a price match recently.
i think the each manager can have a different final say..
sometimes they may not match if the loss is too big.

sometimes they will make a loss just to push more product through.. makes the numbers look good.
(the staff, who can receive commission, may accept a low price just to see their sales go higher and get a bonus.. or something).

i think their policy may be to not pricematch with distant stores etc.

I had to push them a bit just to pricematch to a Umart about 6km away.

Before you go in, maybe call up one of the stores and ask about their policies.. arm yourself.

From memory, Dicksmith have a decent two-week 'no questions asked' return policy if the phones aren't suitable. The Harvey I went into didn't seem as open to returns.

  • HN are not fair when it comes to price match, or returns.

I have had many issues when HN would refuse pricematch outright. In case of Sony TV with wireless media player offer around a year back. HN said that Sony called him to say that it is a misprint on their website. I came back and order the TV direct from Sony.

Yes they would do anything to push a sale if you don't know the market price.

I find OW much better. Give them a proof of the price and they would beat it as per their policy. You may have some attitude issues with staff depending on whom you get. But generally no major dramas.

I like Dicksmiths returns policy. If you are not sure if a thing would work for you. Best would be to buy from them. With Dicksmiths, unlike OW you are usually able to politely ask for a better price. You would find sometimes different stores do a different price on specials. So if you happen to know a lower price by another store, even if it is mentioned on OB, just mention it to the staff. They can check the prices at another store and match it for you. I did the same at Chadstone store by matching a special price at Doncaster store for a Samsung BDP 1500.

    Hope this helps.
