Buying Camera Lens Overseas - Which stores are safe?

Hi All,

I am seeking advice on buying a camera lens from an overseas website. So far I have bought all my camera gear locally at a greater cost. I'm now looking to buy a new lens and second battery for my Nikon D3300, and without any good deals locally I would like to try buying from one of the cheaper overseas websites.

So far I have looked at the following sites. Does anyone have experience with these? Or can anyone recommend a good/safe website to buy from?

http://www.cccwarehouse.com.au
https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com
https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au

I'm looking at buying a wide angle lens, something similar to one of the following. I'll be photographing mountains/snow/waterfalls etc and also stars at night.

Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR
http://www.cccwarehouse.com.au/xcart/pc/nviewPrd.asp?idProdu…

Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II 11-16mm f/2.8
http://www.cccwarehouse.com.au/xcart/pc/Tokina-AT-X-116-PRO-…

Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO
http://www.cccwarehouse.com.au/xcart/pc/Tokina-AT-X-11-20mm-…

Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM

Any guidance on lenses or safe websites would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

i bought few from them. all good. but not thousand $ lens, just $500ish

Most people complained online are about they bought then got email saying no stock.

how to avoid it: get your Credit Card ready, open the page click add to cart the item you need.

    CALL THEM.
dont worry they speak fluent english

Confirmed the stock with them. re-confirm.
    click BUY and PAY immediately.

  • e-infin is good too. ships by fedex from hong kong.

  • I've purchased from DWI, no issues with them, but then again, I've been lucky and haven't had anything break and needing a warranty claim.

  • I was a happy dwi customer until they stuffed up a sigma 20mm f1.4 lens.

Box arrived slightly squished but with the lens cap cracked. It's a heavy 1kg lens and the lens cap is a huge one.

I had paid not through PayPal but direct. I tried to claim on their shipping insurance which I had paid extra for. They denied saying box wasn't damaged enough. I ask for refund. They declined. I did cc charge back.

They then asked me to send the lens back and promised $50 to pay for the shipping. I shipped it back for $75 and then they refused to give me the $50 they promised saying that according to PayPal t+c's the buyer pays return shipping. …. But I had not used PayPal!

    They wouldn't do anything further.

Previously I had bought another lens and three phones okay.

They're great when things go well. When things go bad, expect disappointment and pain.

I since avoid them like the plague and advise everyone to stay away from them.

  • You gotta be joking OP.
Read all the feedback in the Whirlpool forums in the Photography section.

    I'm not familiar with CCCwarehouse.

    Go to https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/132

Plonk the names you wish to research into the search and viola!

I'm looking at a Nikon wide angle for my DX too and so far Amazon.com.au is looking like the best/safest for the AF-P lens, which I think I'm going to grab at $425 plus post but I think with Nikon Au warranty unlike DWI or EGlobal.

  • Thanks for the heads up you say?

    Oh your welcome I'm sure
