Kanye West New Album Thoughts? (Ye, 2018)

In my opinion sonically and lyrically amazing. Best album of the year so far

Didn't know it was out. Interesting to see what the subject matter is about after what he has been through over the last few months.

I never listened to his music but may have a look now. I like him as a person because he stands up and speaks truth unlike most of the other high paid 'stars'.

Don't know if it is always truth but it is his version of the truth which most I guess mainstream followers or listeners would also adhere to. The truth is a touchy dicey topic I guess maybe or mainly for some.. haha lol I dunno I am just talking now out of my donkey.

Hahaha … I guess you're too new to have come across his, uh, cocaine fuelled manic videos where he talks crazy.

In the last few videos I watched he was calm and collected and talked a lot of truth…

    • Oh dear. It appears your finely developed sarcasm is wasted on these people Z

The Daft Punk sample he did on "Stronger" was literally the height of his career. I might check out the new album, but I don't like the chances of it being good while he's still embroiled in the Kardashian shitstorm.

Daft punk have created some great music. I can't help but play it over and over when I'm in the mood.

    • probably was the height of his mainstream career as that album did have a lot of mainstream friendly songs. In terms of rap and album quality, the consensus is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is his best work and really skyrocketed his standing in the rap community. It's the most acclaimed album of this century so far.

I thought My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus were brilliant pieces of art… I can understand why you enjoy Stronger though.

  • Ghost Town was amazing. The intro was great too. Otherwise the rest really was either average or just not good. The beats were great but the lyrics were just not good at all. He needs to bring Cyhi back to the studio when hes recording. The album itself was too short to really vibe and get into. Kanye's always done better when you can listen to a long piece of work and get into the zone. If it's going to be 7 tracks, I don't want any filler or weak tracks. There was no concept to the album either. The middle tracks could've been rearranged and it would've made no difference.

This to me is more of a fun EP that Kanye didn't take too seriously. I give it a 4/10. Definitely his worst project. I'd really like some insight as to what you thought was lyrically amazing. I'll give it a proper listen later but I can't see this being more than a 6/10. It's not the same quality as the first decade of his work. Ghost Town has me super excited for Cudi/Kanye next week though

just having a listen now, amazing how the great president Trump had given Kanye energy. I'll give it 9/10.

        Dragon energy*

Irony, huh. Trump and Kanye West do have the same level of cluelessness.

        • +1

Sure, they both became very wealthy from being clueless….

@Zedsdeadbabyzedsdead: I don't admire people just based on the amount of money they accumulate; otherwise I would think that arms salesman, sex slave trafficers and drug traffickers around the world were brilliant people.

    • Yeah, I totally agree with this… I couldn't see the influence Rick Rubin had on this album.

    Nope.

Taiwan #1. One China doesn't exist and it's a myth.

  • No thanks. Oh, you want to play it right now? You know I just can't believe I forgot about it but I have somewhere I need to be, boy am I silly, sorry I have to go buddy. Oh I'm busy all next week, catch you later though.

  • OVER-RATED - WHO'S DRAKE AGAIN?

    • Um, you realize that Kanye and Drake are 2 totally different people, right?

  • 'All Mine' and 'Yikes' seem to be the most likeable songs out of the album according to the consensus in which I agree with. However when comparing it to Pushas latest release I don't really rate it.

    • Honestly, you might be right.

      • Kids See Ghosts is absolutely brilliant though. Cudi and Ye make a great collaboration.

I'm hung up on his lyric about bipolar being a superpower or making him a superhero… Like all xmen, gotta learn to harness it…
It's so hard trying to separate Kanye the musician from Kanye the public ego because for so long that's been part of his art form. It's why I've defended him so many times… He is amazing at representing the contradictions and incoherencies of these times. But with power comes responsibility… And when right now the only ones holding yeezy responsible are a certain family, and even they freely admit to issues, then… Idk… He's 40 now? Time to be more…

    • He's learning to be more human, I guess… his last couple of releases have had a certain free-ness not typical to him.
