Reasonable price Gortex rain jacket

hi,
I have recently got into cycling, hiking and rock climbing and have been looking for a decent priced gortex rain jacket.
I went to Kathmandu, and Paddy Palin today. Jackets at Paddy Palin or the Northface are ridiculously high price, upto 800-900$ and I can’t even get my size which is Small or XS. My budget is around $350 for a Gortex jacket.

Various people whoare members of various outdoor club had suggested not to buy Kathmandu so i am kind of reluctant to buy from there.

Can someone please guide me.

Thank you.

I tend to read reviews online. Particularly because this is an investment you want to last. Something can be Gore-Tex and not live up to what you think it might do. Check out this site as a good place to start https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/topics/clothing-mens/best-rai…

I wouldn't get a Kathmandu personally for the activities you're looking at.

  • Be aware that there are different grades of waterproofness for jackets.
I got one a north face jacket from amazon US for around $100. It's meant to be pretty water resistant though I haven't really tested it.

  • I bought a Regatta Hard Wear jacket from the UK.

The Isotex fabric is supposed to be as good as Goretex, and there seems to be no difference in performance to my Goretex one.

  • Take a look at Kathmandu outlet, sometimes they've Gore-tex jacket at 1/3 of the original price.

If you're not in a hurry, set a search alert on gore-tex jacket at eBay, and remember to set the item location to worldwide. You've a wider choice of brands there, such as Arc'teryx.

  • I bought my gortex jacket from Macpac last year for $240 when they were offering an extra discount on sale items. Super happy with the quality and performance, and especially the price (I had the same thoughts as you on paying $800 for a jacket…). Tried it on in store, but bought online to get the extra $$$ off the price.

If you've got time to wait for a deal, keep an eye on their website and the sale/clearance section, deals seem to come up relatively often. I wear a medium, which seems to be the first size to sell out, and didn't have any problems finding a selection of jackets available.
