The description on your web-site is misleading. It says that it is 7.1 channel, when this unit is 5.1. Please correct as this is a major difference.

    • Hi Bob19,

Thanks for pointing that out, the features were taken from Yamaha's website, which strangely enough has it wrong.

      http://www.yamahamusic.com.au/products/av/av-receivers/RX-V4…

However we have now changed it on ours.

      Regards,

      ELJO

      • Thank you for correcting the error so quickly.
Good price for this unit. I wish it was 7.1 channel…as this is what I need.

        • Its a shame you missed our sale on the RXV-1065BI which we had at $649, as it was 7.2ch and a fantastic price.

However for the new range of Yamaha models have a look here:

          http://www.eljo.com.au/category_s/110.htm

If you have any questions just let me know.

    • I have one of these. Technically it is 7.1, but only has connections for 5.1 speakers. The other two are by connecting an external amplifier, which can take care of the other 2 speakers. I agree it is confusing, and can't imagine anyone would want to do it this way, but it can technically decode and support 7.1.

I saw this and thought it might be a good bet, so I did a little digging…

The RX-V467 (eg the updated, newer, version of this) has been out for a while and can be picked up for an A$ equivalent price of $264. That's with HDMI 1.4, 3D-ready, etc.

So this price might be OK for rip off Oz, but it's not really that much of bargain - old model and very little under what the RRP ought to be here, if they were taking notice of the exchange rate and the global marketplace.

    • $264 hey… where abouts is this?

      • +1

        http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/yamaha-rxv467-av-receiver-16…

Not sure the downvote is justified - I was just trying to alert people that this wasn't the 'deal' it was made out to be…

        • Yamaha - RX-V367 - 5.1Ch AV Receiver is $399 at BingLee and In stock.
          http://www.binglee.com.au/review/product/list/id/9482/catego…
Waiting for BL to beat it!

So RX-V367 is spoosed to be better right?

        • thats a UK site? shipping?

        • US,Canada,& UK are getting much better price than us. Australian are being rippped off!

        • +2

'467' is MUCH better than '367' - basically don't buy the '3' level.

And yep it's UK. No idea how much the shipping is, but that's not really the point. If a UK company can sell the newer model for less money, then an Oz importer ought to be able to do even better (after all, China is closer).

BTW UK VAT (GST) is 20%, that should be thrown in there too.

Look at it like this. If the Oz importers actually priced as the exchange rate dictated, then the inflation rate would fall significantly, and Gillard wouldn't be talking about higher interest rates as a result of higher costs to fund the QLD cleanup.

It's not impossible for Australian prices to be comparable with global prices. Hardly Normal were selling a 2T external drive for $99 - on a par with the prices overseas. It CAN be done, if the retail chain isn't trying to rip off the consumer.

Meanwhile, I'm looking at buying from the UK. It's a global marketplace…

(PS Thanks for the upvote that zeroed out the downvote)

        • VAT is usually not included in the final price when they export it another country

        • doesn't ship outside europe…

        • You fail to take into account that Australian prices for AV equipment are universally far more expensive than overseas (US, EU etc). Unless those overseas retailers are willing to ship to Australia, there is simply no point attempting to compare with their prices. We can only make comparisons between possible options.

        • Err, no stellaoriens, I was POINTING OUT that 'the Australian prices for AV equipment are universally far more expensive than overseas'.

Since they are all imported from China, someone, somewhere, is making a very healthy profit - at your expense. Do you LIKE getting ripped off?

And you can't really call something a bargain in that situation, can you?

As for buying overseas and getting shipped to Australia, there are always ways to achieve it even if they won't directly play ball (eg services like http://www.priceusa.com.au/).

I was letting people know that actually, this wasn't that hot and to take it into consideration. But given the 5+ downvotes from those that don't like to be reminded of the world market realities, I don't think I'll bother in future. What's the point, they'll still stick fingers in ears and sing 'la la la', won't they?

        • I was POINTING OUT that ‘the Australian prices for AV equipment are universally far more expensive than overseas’.

          That's not exactly earth-shattering news…..
The reason you were downvoted is that your neg has nothing to do with the deal offered here. You were not providing a cheaper, viable alternative, gave no information about the product in question, nor information about the merchant in question.
Generally bleating about the cost of stuff in Au could apply to any AV deal on ozbargain.

Comment about it for sure (although as I said, There can't be many on here unaware of the price differences between countries), but don't neg the deal based on it.

  • Must be a bit slow today, but from the specs page, i cant seem to find if the HDMI is passthrough only?

    • If it can decode DTS-HD MA (which it does, from the description), then it's an HDMI repeater, and not pass through only.

    • Not passthrough only.

  • +1

I don't think this is really ozbargain appropriate, even ebay deals need more stock for them to be posted.

    • Hi,

We had 12 units, we now have 2 units left.

      Regards,

      ELJO

      • oh, that's fine then, I saw 4 units (little while ago) and thought that is not enough to qualify a deal.

  • Ex VAT price is : 137.49 GBP = 221.431 AUD
Would shipping be more than $50?
I've sent them an email, asking if they ship to Australia. as Australia is in their shipping list.

    • Doubt it, they won't even ship games to AU..

      • Some Ebay shops do send it to Australia, but costs a stunnng $126!

    • Help
Which countries do you deliver to?
We ship anywhere in the UK.
We are able to send to other european destinations but you will need to contact us for shipping quotations.

2 units for sale? What's the point of posting it on OzBargain

  • He had 5 units when I saw it, quite resonsible for keep updating the quantity left.
Really sorry for Kridp from BingLee couldn't cash in the deal with the Sony SAVS350H speakers!

    • Sane,
So is this one better than
      Pioneer VSX-520
      Onkyo SR308
      Yamaha RX-V367 ?
In term of function or sound quality?
      Fish

      • fish,

The 367 doesn't have HD audio formats, which should rule it right out.

I think the others do, but you're tending to lose some functions at this end of the market. For instance the Pioneer and the Onkyo lose the automatic setup mode that puts a microphone at the seating position to listen and adjust the speakers; the Onkyo has no video inputs, etc.

5.1 rather than 7.1 is also the order of the day - if that's important to you (personally I think its bad enough running 6 cables, I don't want 8 to bury).

Best bet is to google the units and compare contrast what they do and don't have. Also google what is sensible price and look at imports to take advantage of the exchange rate change that hasn't been represented in Oz prices. Avforums, Whirlpool, etc. are good places for finding out what others think, and how they get these imported. Obviously warranty plays its part here, but electronics is all bathtub failure curves, so not a biggy.

        • Sorry for my ignorance. I am not going for 3D and need a cheap Home Threater setup. I now have this, and the Sony SAVS350H speakers, do I need to buy any HiFi Cable to connect them , or that comes with the speakers?
          And what is HDMI passthrough?

Sorry should ask them in Forum!

        • This is a good comparison:
          http://www.audioholics.com/buying-guides/how-to-shop/2010-en…

Onkyo 308 actually has HDMI passthrough.

  • Site currently showing availability as 10+ ….so why has rep marked this listing as SOLD OUT ??

    • try adding one to your cart……..

Sorry, the following item is currently out of stock: Yamaha 5.1ch AV Receiver - RX-V465B

  • Just got the Amp today, I have this hooked up to a Sony Bravia KDL-37S3100 (another OZBargain special) and am finding the hdmi pass-through is post processing the image to a point it looks horrible.

I have a feeling this is the 'deep color' feature does anyone know how to disable any post effects and just let the signal pass through unmolested?

    • Be Aware! HDMI from a HTPC does not support 1366 x 720 cannot create custom res which explains the poor image quality I was having.

      • Firmware update out for this Amp already!

        http://www.yamahamusic.com.au/support/firmware-update-65-ser…

        • That's from august 2009….
one would hope that this stock would have the updated firmware already

        • Mine was on 0028, can't expect old stock to be updated. Update went successfully using a coax digital cable from an old DVD player.

        • ahh, mine arrived today….guess that will be the first job for tomorrow

        • Still $747 at JB Hi Fi what a score!
