Microsoft Surface Book - Which One to Keep?

Hi,

I bought one of each of the surface books from these deals:

I’m not sure which one to keep - mainly be using for work (all web based) and photoshop.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

  • Wouldn't you be in the best position to answer that, comparing the performance for your own different scenarios and needs? Since you can test them hands on…

    • I’m not really that tech savvy and was trying to avoid opening the one I’m going to send back

Keep the one with the performance base. The nvidia graphics card in it will help with photoshop.

It’s got less storage, but 256GB is enough for OS, programs & working files, you can get a USB Harddisk cheap enough to use for bulk storage.

Ah… just noticed it’s only got 8Gb ram vs the 16gb in the other… that makes it a trickier choice coz that extra 8Gb would help too… I think I’d still go the performance base though.

    • one is 940mx
      performance base is 965m

$600 more and I’m not eligible for student/teacher discount

      • $563 more

        for 8th gen 4.2ghz boost i7 w/ 4 cores 8 threads + GTX 1050

        VS. 6th gen dual core i7 + 940/965m

someone bought using his 9yo student ID

        • Ya fair enough. I wouldnt mind the set up either but how to get around the student thing. Dpeends on what they check or if can buy on behalf or soneone else studying?

Good topic and same position. You can return after opening them from what i am aware.

I am learning towards 512. I havent tested the 256 though.

If you do photoshop prob stick with the 256.

Playing around with the laptop will use the intel gpu nearly all the time anyways and only kicks in when you run a program. So if im not incorrect you only get use out of the performance base if you use certain programs that need it or extra battery life
