Internode or Pay The Extra for AussieBB?

Hi guys,

Currently paying $80 a month for Telstras crappy service, no idea why I ever went with Telstra. They have been nothing but useless when i've complained about congestion & high ping/loss during certain hours.

I've made another complaint to them stating I want my bill waved otherwise i'm not paying it because their service has been nothing but crap. Obviously they won't listen to this so i'm at a dilemma. I originally wanted to go to optus but they overfill exchanges making service worse, Internode were good when I was living at home so I'm leaning towards them. But AussieBB have such a good rep, I just hate paying that extra $30 for line rental + not getting nbn at my place until 2020 is pure shit.

At a dilemma. Either pay $60 a month for net or pay up to $95 a month for AussieBB. I know AussieBB would be worth it but it's not in my budget, especially when it's used for a 1-2 hours week days and maybe 4-5 on the weekend depending on what i'm doing.

Advice would be much appreciated.

You answered your own question, if $95 is not within your budget, then you have no choice but to go with the $60 a month plan.

What service are you on at the moment? ADSL? what are your signal levels? Tried isolation test?

What makes you so sure Telstra is at fault?

    • It's 100% telstras end. I use a ethernet cable to my pc. tried different routers, cables, etc. had techs out to see if it was the connection between the phone line to the box outside the house. Nothing wrong.

      On 1000gb for $80, i use 100-150gb max.

    aussiebb is good for nbn.
seeing as you're still on adsl, their adsl service is likely just a telstra reseller.
look for a telstra reseller if you dont want to stay with telstra.
but im pretty sure telstra is as good as it gets with adsl

Why do you need a $95 plan with ABB? They have much cheaper plans especially if as you say you do not use the internet that much. I currently pay $60 a month with Aussie Broadband.

    • you need to pay $30 for line rental each month with them, they don't do naked deals. already rang them up and they said it'd cost $95 if i were to go on the $65 adsl plan.

  • I've been on Internode naked ADSL for 8 years now and I'm happy with the service. The one time that I had a full outage, I called their support number. The Internode guy identified a line fault and booked a technician to fix it.

I would not rule out a faulty modem. The only time I had intermittent issues was because my modem was dying, not line issues. Fortunately ADSL modem/routers are really cheap on Gumtree right now due to the number of people switching to NBN.

    • telstra replaced the modem and it made no difference. i'd try a decent router but I don't feel like I should because the telstra one should just work.

  • AB have new plans. Work out what your usage is(check your monthly bills) and you can tailor a plan to work with your that. My family do about 700-800g(D & U) per month. So rather that go on an unlimited plan we are on a set download plan. Affectively unlimited as long as we dont go over that threshold. Even then its just throttled back. You can start on a higher down load and then throttle down or up. Cost $10 per change though.

As per other reviews. AB have good service, but you do pay for it. If like me you want that reliability and CS experience then it may be worth while. Hope that helps.

There are obviously cheaper providers, but you get what you pay for.
