Advice Needed, Having Trouble Finding Internet

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to get internet for my house but apparently I can't get adsl as I'm too far from the interchange or something (even tho my neighbours have internet apparently my house is just extra shit), and nbn isn't going to be in my area until early to mid 2019 (at best)

I'm absolutely going through my all my mobile data so easily.

And I can't hack the neighbours WiFi (I'm not smart enough)
Apparently my only option is a pocket modem, which I'm not keen on and know like nothing about.

Help

P.s I'm a broke student

  • Wireless Broadband via AussieBroadBand

    • Won't pass a credit check

      • Vivid wireless? They don't have a credit check, but you have to make sure you have coverage otherwise it dodge.

        • Ok sweet ty, I'll have to save up abit since its 200 upfront.

        • @Battybekbek: Fair enough, yeah the modem cost up front is a bit iff, there's been an occasional time where you can get it cheaper $150 from harvey norman and good guys occasionally, they usually give you 1 month free, and then with a ref link (you can find on here) you get another month free which saves you some cost especially at the start (recoup costs from having to by the modem).

But again deff check if it meets your needs, it has a max of 12 down, it can be occasionally slow when there's too many people on it (like at 5pm when everyone's coming back from work) and need to make sure you get good coverage. But does work well for me.

        • @trustnoone:
Sweet sounds good. I'll talk it over with my fiancé

      • Then how had you been planning to get ADSL connected then?

        • No idea I figure atleast one company won't worry about.

ask your neighbors if they want to share, bargain for both

    • They're assholes

        Takes one to know one.

  • move house

    • Not really an option atm

      • of course not! the correct option is bikies to "help" the neighbors move

  • Do your neighbours have internet via Telstra/Optus Cable rather than ADSL?

    • I know one neighbour have optus but idk what type… I think cable.

  • Ask if your neighbours would get unlimited and share it with you. You can pay a third or however many people are in the neighbours house.

    • They won't.

      • Have you asked them?

        • They're all druggos, and not the good kind

  • Op, pm me your address and I'll have a look what Telstra can offer you

    • I think Telstra have a new Bikies Plan going.
Might be the perfect hit fit.

    • Seems like they failed esq so no fixed option. Any mobile option will be expensive

  • How much mobile data do you have? Perhaps pay a bit extra to get 100/200gb from Optus?

Also what do you use your internet on and how much data do you really need?

  • skyMuster satellite

Kogan prepaid mobile with a decent data amount each month, maybe an option??

  • I signed up for ADSL with Telstra and only got 4Mbps. I was getting that with a 4G hotspot. (Which is fine for basic browsing etc, so you don't need ADSL.)

Buy up the SIM deals that are posted here from time to time. So you'll be up for ~$20 per month for maybe 9G/month.
If you need more, do your main internetting at library or free wifi of choice.

  • Any chance you live near a telstra wifi spot?

  • The answer is so obvious. Move house!

  • I’d say Vivid wireless as well provided you get Optus 4G coverage at your house. You are not going to get 12mbps if you are that far from the exchange anyway. As a rule of thumb, Telstra won’t connect adsl if you are more than 5km from the exchange.
