Best Digital TV Set up Box

Hi all, got a projector HT system. Looking to stream free to air channels to my Epson projector. I understand I need a set up box to achieve that.

The big question is whether the cheap one like Laser from Big W for $39 will do just as good job as the more expensive one? Only need it for FTA channels. No need for recording etc…

Any recommendation? Mainly the channel tuner has to be good, hate to have drop out during a WC matches coming soon and preferably 1080p output.

Thanks!

  • Xiaomi mi box3
    Nvidia Shield
two popular choices of the OzBs.
I have both and have no issues.
Sorry, misread your request. Theses aren't settop boxes.
However, if you have reliable broadband with a large size plan, you could possibly use these by watching Tv using various apps like freeview, she, Abc…

  • Purchased this one about 3 weeks ago at Big W on special at $39.00. Don't seem to mention it on their website but it seems to be working well so far.

    • This looks like just a prettier Laser one?

  • Combine an Xbox One with the usb digital TV Tuner (bought for about $15 from the UK) available for it.

Overkill for your question, but if gaming will happen on the projector then this is a good all in 1 solution - TV, gaming, Netflix etc and media streaming.

A 1 stop shop :) and only takes up 1 hdmi port into the projector 😉

  • to my Epson projector

You might be better off just getting a tv tuner dongle for laptop, and connect laptop to projector (if it is only for occasional use) .
Does your epson projector have HDMI and 1080p output ?
I had an epson projector and it only had computer output anyway.

    • I got the Epson home theatre 9300, so yes 1080p, pseudo 4k, just not feasible to connect to laptop from ceiling.

  • We purchased 2 of the Laser and have returned one already and will be returning the other next week. They both kept dropping stations and we had to keep doing a scan to get them back. Also the remote is the size of a matchbox.

    • My laser one so far working ok in all WC matches. Finger crossed. Not the sharpest picture though, but maybe because I watched on 110" screen so it's more obvious

  • Vodafone TV box will do everything you've asked in your post including FTA and more. $120 with local warranty and it doesn't seem to have any app restrictions either.

  • Bought the Laser one in the end, since it's just for WC, might as well try the cheapest one first, so far so good. Can't say the picture is sharpest, but no dropouts or lost channels so far as reported. The loss picture sharpness could also due to the fact I'm watching on a 110" screen with projector too.
