Why doesn't the Melbourne Herald Sun do these deals…

I can't read The Age on the train, it's TOO big…

  • In the SMH section it says "A charge of $49 will be made for a period of 52 weeks. Fairfax may vary the details of direct debit requests at any time by giving you at least 14 days written notice"

Sounds like they plan to direct debit you more than once!

    • Umm….yes…they charge you for the 52 weeks…when that's finished they charge you again….

Just subscribed. I think $49 is quite cheap considering the Saturday paper is $2.50 and the Sunday paper is $2.

  • Good Bargain, great price. Thanks for posting.

  • was just looking for a deal like this thanks

  • it says: 52 weeks of Thursday-Sunday delivery for $49
so, is it only for the delivery charges?
are any additional charges for the newspaper? anyone?

    • $49 must be the total for the actual newspapers and their delivery, because it also says "You’ll save over $315 off the newsstand price."

    • I'm 100% cetain, there are no additional charges, I got a similar deal late last year.

  • Thanks, just subscribed :)

  • there's been a few deals like this in the past - and i subscribed to one of those. my question is, has anyone had theirs expire and automatically renewed for the same deal?? what happens at the end of the 52 weeks? i love this deal, and would love it to continue…

    • you get offered $99 for the following year

      • thanks - still a good-ish deal. much better than the $150 or so i used to pay for just the weekends, or the $260 they charge on their websites…

Good deal, all 4 days of The Age are the best ones to get - thursday has Drive & Green Guide, friday has EG, and weekend has about 14kg of reading material to get through :) Subscribed!

  • Great deal, signed up yesterday in the late afternoon, however had not received an invoice, or any confirmation email at all. Is it the same situation for everyone else? Il wait till after tomorrow.

    • yes, no email or tax invoice,
But does have a confirmation page which you may print straight after payment is made…

  • Great deal/value … assume/hope I can get it later today.

… would be great if it was inclusive of the environmentally-friendly ;) iPad app INSTEAD …

but when The Age are asking $18 a month for the iPad app (all issues), clearly too much to hope for.

  • Well the dymocks deal which ran about a year ago was $52 for 52 weeks (thurs - sun) which I thought was incredible value at the time. That has now lapsed so I have gone with this offer.

Interestingly they sent a renewal notice with same $52 rate for 52 weeks however a letter arrived a few days later offering the same thing for $59.
They also included a 7 day option for $99!. (but the extra $40 for 3 days is not really worth it).

  • Anyone get any confirmation of this after purchasing?

  • Ordered mine last night before the offer closed at midnight (even though u can still access it) havent received any confirmation yet.

ok - received my first paper today! Even though no confirmation (via email or phone) was received

But I was a monthly suscriber prior to this and cancelled my subsciption under a week ago just for this - so dont know if this attributed to me receiving my paper so soon

  • Still have not received any confirmation email myself. Unfortunately, I was not connected to a printer and was not able to print on the day I signed up.

  • haven't got any deliveries yet signed up last tuesday

  • I have received my first delivery yesterday (Thursday ??? I thought it's Friday- Monday only). Then again our local newsagent delivery person always makes mistakes. I sometimes get Sunday Telegraph instead of Herald delivered. No email confirmation yet.

    • i think u need to read the OP - the subscription is thur to Sun! Should have said so a few times when u were ordering

      • Sorry my mistake. The standard SMH 4-day subscription is Fri-Mon so mistakenly assumed it is the same. This means I miss the monday TV guide.

  • Has anyone received their letter stating their subscription date expires on 4/12/2011? Given it's 52 weeks I would have thought it would be feb 2012?

  • Does anyone know if this is still valid? I use the link above, but doesnt give me the option to select $49 deal, it aint there, only $260 for those 4 days! Get to the step before payment and says $260, nowhere to put in a coupon, voucher or anything like that.

    • Looks like offer at that price is over and as you say other (higher) prices are shown
