New Mazda CX9 Touring - best price

Hi folks,

What's the best drive-away price people have got for a brand new Mazda CX9 Touring (FWD)?

Is end of financial year a really good time to buy or just a hype?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

what do you think is the best price?

Lol, are you a sales guy? I am interested to know what others have purchased in the past on this model.

  • Second question I've been pondering: Is AWD worth getting considering it's mostly urban driving? I know that AWD has the advantages of shorter braking distance, more stable during slippery and mountains roads. But unsure whether it's worth paying $4K extra.

    • AWD adds weight and hence lowers fuel efficiency. It would be hard to justify on a people mover in my opinion!

(Also adds extra tyre wear if I remember correctly)

    • Personally I think that AWD is a lot safer to drive, it makes the car so much easier to keep under control in an emergency - it's basically more idiot proof to drive.

Only in a situation where you are applying throttle. If you trying to slow down, going around a corner too fast or aquaplaning it will provide no further means of control.

    • With the advent of traction control, no.

      • That's my understanding as well. I went for a test drive with Subaru, and the sales-guy was telling me how good Subaru is by going around a corner in fast speed without braking. LOL. As if i will be driving like that.

      • Haven't driven a FWD then huh? They still torque steer and spin the wheels in the wet

AWD is a lot more manageable in V6 Fwds

    • AWD can tow heavier weight. If towing caravan/campertrailer is something you would do, then opt for the AWD.

      1. I know that AWD has the advantages of shorter braking distance

      2. easier to keep under control in an emergency

Oh my.. how one can possibly think that AWD/4WD improves BREAKING? People, where is your logic here?

Also can't understand what kind of emergency is imagined here - high speed drifting pursuit on the mountain road covered with snow in Alps possibly, but in CX9, c'mon!?

The most common emergency is breaking to a full stop, which will be best on the lightest car, with the best breaks and tyres. AWD doesn't help here.

Oh my.. how one can possibly think that AWD/4WD improves BREAKING?

        Coz there's more to break?

      • The most common emergency is breaking to a full stop, which will be best on the lightest car,

1/3 of vehicle collisions are front to rear. The occupants in the vehicle with the heaviest mass is more likely avoid injuries than those in the lighter vehicle.

Give this a look - John can be annoying, but his knowledge of the auto industry is second to none.

      • Haha, very comprehensive explanations and lots of 18+ jokes too from John. Thanks.

    • Having AWD makes no difference to braking distance.

      • Having AWD makes no difference to braking distance.

It may make a difference. Vehicles with awd have more parts than a similar model which often means more mass. More mass requires more breaking distance.

Usually in emergency you're braking? Brakes are on all wheels!

AWD is better on snow or when accelerating in slippery conditions. Can also cut out some torque steer if you hammer it while turning.

Wouldn't bother with AWD though, adds a transfer case that caused expensive problems in the old model. 2WD has no transfer case.

  • based on what the last post from the whirpool forum thread(below), whereby the guy bought the touring with AWD for $53k(including all the extras). I assume one can get the FWD for around $48K.

  • Having test drove the car - CX9 GT. I must say the steering and braking isn't as good as euproean cars like VW, BMW. Car sales tell me it's probably to do with the car you used to drive, but doubt otherwise. Anyone else having similar experience?
